Birthday treat! Smile Aug 14, 2013

Chose Aoki as my birthday treat since my friend have not tried it before. Had to choose the 12pm seating as my friend eats his lunch early, although i feel it is quite a rush lunch affair. The restaurant is full as usual.

Otoshi was served first, it taste pretty much the same as everywhere else.

Next was the salad, and my friend was quite impressed by how the radish was cut thinly. And little sauce was added to the salad to enhance the flavor.

I ordered my usual mazechirashi set lunch as its the bestest and freshest sashimi bowl.

My friend ordered the 9 piece nigiri sushi set which cost him $50. He said the sashimi is top grade and very fresh.

He urged me to try but i rather stick with my mazechirashi anytime as there is no uni sushi in the nigiri set and there is at least a spoon of uni in the mazechirashi bowl.

The dessert was served at about 1pm as we need to clear the tables by 1.30pm for the next seating. This time i was served mochi, chocolate strawberry ice cream and the usual plum jelly.

The set might look little but its actually very filling. Highly recommend the mazechirashi set as the sashimi and the rice ratio is 2:1, and the wasabi is fresh here! The only downside is, the service here is inconsistent, or perhaps it depends on who is the waitress taking care of the tables during the shift.

Was on my way to the Siglap Centre during the weekends and saw this shop bursting with people in the bus. Was curious and i got down the bus at Roxy Square bus stop on my way back.

It was a small space in the restaurant and outside definitely has more space. There is also a menu stand outside the restaurant for passerby. It is definitely more comfortable to sit outside, although its a little hot on a afternoon.

I noticed they serve ice cream as well but i didnt really have a chance to look at it. Was in a rush so i asked my food to be taken away instead. Bought the tom yum soup and the mango sticky rice.

I messed up the presentation of the mango sticky rice, otherwise the taste is decent.

The tom yum soup is fragrant even though when the lid is closed and people were staring at my food along the train ride. There are many pieces of ingredients, as some places they only give a few pieces of meat and a whole chunk of spices. But this soup is not bad, its not spicy but it numb my lips after awhile.

Will definitely go back again to try other food. And the place is accessible by taking bus 10 or bus 14 opposite the Nicoll Highway Station.

This Korean restaurant is always quiet whenever i walk past. Nevertheless, we decided to enter to try as my friend is quite a big Korean fan.

As usual, the starters that can be topped up as many times as you want. There is no limit here, perhaps due to lack of people, although it is dinner time.

They served this pumpkin porridge separately and we were told that it is in the testing for customers' feedback on the dish. I love this pumpkin porridge a lot! I wanted to ask them to serve a bigger bowl and I will be willing to pay the same cost as my main course. They said it is not allowed but came back with two much bigger bowls! Appreciate this gesture a lot.

This is my main course, the Tofu Soup. Was quite disappointed that it was not cooked properly as there was sand in the soup!

My friend ordered this and it is not bad, many ingredients and we were full to the brim but this pot is quite pricey.

Overall, the service is good but perhaps they need to improve on their food. It will be the best if they can sell the pumpkin porridge as one of their main courses and I will be there 3 days every week. mad

Spending per head: Approximately $40(Dinner)

Fish & Chips

Fish & Chips

I like this cafe alot as it is very cosy and have been returning to the place as it also provides crafting materials.

Love the Thai food in this cafe as its decent and most importantly, it is not oily. Other friends were telling me that the Western food is not as good as the Thai selections except for the Mac & Cheese. Did not heed their advice and ordered the Fish and Chips anyway.

The fries are okay according to one of the friends who ate so many different kind of fries whenever she travels, and she's a fries expert, commented that their fries are good. The fish is a little thin and there is no lingering taste in the mouth. Will not order again although it is not that bad. I shall try their Thai food next time!

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Dinner)

There is always a long queue when the friends and I come to this place. We waited for about 20 minutes before getting a seat.
carrot cake

carrot cake

Super love the carrot cake here! It is not the usual kind of carrot cake where it is commonly sold. And not many places are selling such style of carrot cake. We ordered 2 - 3 bowls of it as most of the items were sold out at 12pm.
custard bao

custard bao

The custard bao is a must-order whenever I visit the place. The custard flow out of the bao when its cuts open and its about a spoon full. It will be great if the bao were made smaller and you can pop into your mouth but I think it will cost more.
porridge

I ordered the porridge in the end as most of the food are sold out and only the porridge is filling enough. The porridge is ok-ok.
siew mai

siew mai

Not a fan of the siew mai here but the friends love it! They ordered 2 - 3 baskets.

Overall, I love the custard baos the best!
