After having tried their delicious macarons previously, I was quite sure that Canele's cakes would not disappoint. So for my mother's birthday, we decided to get her a cake from Canele and being chocolate-lovers, it was a no-brainer to get the Le Chocolat Croustillant, which is basically a fancy french name for Crispy Chocolate Cake. The cake is made up of luscious Vanini chocolate mousse layered between a crispy chocolate praline, opulent Gianduja cream, surrounded by a wall of divine dark chocolate glaze & crushed hazelnuts. In other words, heaven in a box. The chocolate mousse was thick and rich, and would definitely satisfy the cocoa-craving in you! Despite being made almost entirely out of mousse and cream (no sponge cake layers or anything), it was not too cloying and hit all the right spots. The layer of crushed hazelnuts at the bottom made it even better because its crispy texture contrasted well with the smooth mousse and cream. The fact that it tasted like nutella was also a bonus because seriously, who doesn't love nutella?!
Needless to say, my mom loved her cake and we will be definitely ordering more of these in the future! That said, enjoying this cake should not be limited to birthdays. Whenever you have a chocolate craving, this is the cake that will fulfil it and more! Highly recommended to all the chocolate and nutella lovers out there, Viva El Chocolate!~
