I got a box of 8@$10. This includes 2 original, red bean, peanut, grass jelly, ginkgo and Logan. I call the shop to reserve a box because I heard that it runs out very fast and I don't want to make a wasted trip. I really like the filling,it is so smooth and soft. However,I did find that the crust is a bit too thick for my liking It would be better if the crust is thinner and the filling can also be sweeter.

As I am in the area to attend a dance class, I decide to drop by to get a box of beancurd tart for the family. The shop is in the middle of a row of shophouses, with full newspaper cutouts decorating the places. The staff tells me to call up for the bean curd tart as it is usually sold out, while getting the tart from the fridge. I am thinking to myself, that he is very long winded for such a yound man some more. For a box of eight tarts, it costs $8.00. The filling tastes like bean curd dessert

For a box of eight tarts, it costs $8.00. The filling tastes like bean curd dessert which is quite smooth but the tart crust tastes a bit dry. Seems to me it is like an overhypered item.

I grabbed one of the pre-packed goodie ($3.50) whose appearance and name perked my curiosity. "A Classic Treat from the 1960s"

This colorful retro-looking scones eh no....rock buns are sweetened naturally with the assorted dried fruits. Rest assure that these rocks won't break your teeth as you pluck of morsels and toss them unstoppable into your mouth.

And tada....the legendary Beancurd tart. Without the eggy custard smell, they are still wobbly and better than having just tau hway. These are delightfully crumbly and butter, like those from Chin Mee Chin. Shaped like a deep-dish ramekin, one is enough to fill an average stomach after dinner. I feel sorry for egg tarts now because beancurd tarts beat them hands-down. ($9 for a box of 8)

Though assorted flavours sound exciting, they really aren't because they taste the same, for instance peanuts is just a few steamed peanuts tossed into the filling. Not peanut butter. Same goes for the longan, grass jelly, ginko nuts and white fungus, red bean, egg white.

Come to think of it, other countries have tau hway but i think Singapore is the only place with Beancurd Tarts. Another great reason to stay here

Initially at the first bite, I couldn't taste the beancurd but subsequently as you go on to the 3rd and 4th bite, you can taste the soybean and the curd is so smooth and silky! I also like the firmness of the tart and the taste is definitely a 'healthier' alternative to egg tarts! I heard they are also famous for their Pineapple tarts and orders are already in for Chinese New Year!!

they come in a box of 8, for $9. and there is also a version where you get a mix of different flavours, like red bean, peanut, egg yolk, ginko, etc. but i think the original is still the best. MUST TRY OK xD

As we were approaching LE Cafe Confectionery, we get to feel the difference. The shop has been aggressively plastered up by prints of the media and their pastries illustrations everywhere leaving a small walkway about 5 meters into the shop only and that's all ( You cant move left and right to do selections like in a pastry shop). A few customers in the shop will eventually make the shop seems overcrowded and chock up the queue.

Their business was more of "you tell me what you want, I take for you" as everything was kept in within the reach of their helpers only.

We was given a name card and was told that pastries are sold out daily, it will be better to give them a call before coming down. (I remember them saying the same thing when I was walked in customers the last round ). Finally grab a box of beancurd tart, so happy about it! Every tart was well seated on the transparent plastic mold in the box neatly and self assure the safety of the tarts as they will not be knocking onto each other during handling. The smooth and silky beancurd make up of soya bean filling is the cream of the crop and encased by a thin crispy layer of delicious pastry.
Cost: S$8.00 (Box of 8)

It was the first time I tried its round pineapple tarts aka "golf-ball tarts" and indeed they were all in the size of golf ball. Every tart was well polished with egg yolk and baked into golden perfection. The balls are incredibly big and on an average, it costs about 90 cents. Not only are they big and tasty, the thin layer of crust was soft, flaky and packed with full load of butter fragrance. Yums! Bite into them and you will realize how generous LE Cafe Confectionery is with their pineapple jam fillings. These extremely addictive jam are full of moisture, rich with pineapple flavours. On top of that, these outrageous portion of pineapple jam was neither starchy nor gluely. Considering the thin crust layer ratio to the copious amount of pineapple jam, it is definitely rewarding and satisfying in enjoying such traditional Pastry!
Cost: S$8.70 (Box of 10)

I have bought a box of these beancurd tarts from this very popular pastry shop. I have queue for almost fifteen minutes before is my turn to place my order. A box of 8 pieces of beancurd tarts cost merely $8, which is quite affordable. THe beancurd paste is very smooth and light in texture, which is also not too sweet and easy to eat. THe biscuit crust is very crunchy and goes well with the beancurd paste. Great to have it at any time of the day.

Le cafe is where we always get our Chinese New Year pineapple tarts from. Although it is not Chinese New Year period now, we still come here to get some traditional snacks from time to time. We got ourselves a container of cashew nuts this time. The relatively large container is filled with fresh cashew nuts. These nuts are slightly salted but taste slightly raw still so they may not be suited to everyone's palates. Overall, it is an average snack. The pineapple ball tarts are much better!

(+) The strong coffee aroma filled the air immediately as I opened the simple white box.
(+) Very refined soft sponge cake, 'melt-in-your-mouth?' - definitely.
(+) Rich coffee-flavoured cream sandwiched between the soft sponge cake.
(+) Despite its richness, the coffee cream complemented and not overwhelmed the cake.
(+) Not sweet.
(+) Relatively light in taste, but full-bodied coffee flavoured.
(+) Perfect for supper indulgence since it was a 'rich yet light treat'.

(+) Not overly sweet, allowing the dry fruits to bring out the sweetness.
(+) Generous amount of dry fruits, and fairly distributed.
(+) Not overly buttery.

(-) Slightly dry but suited my taste as I did not want to feel greased out by the butter.
(-) Might not appeal to those looking for a rich indulgence.

Assorted fillings include: grass jelly, peanuts, gingko nut, white fungus, red bean, longan, egg white and original.

(+) Light and refreshing (consumed cold), good variation from the typical egg tarts.
(+) Not as sweet as egg tarts and arguably a less guilty treat.
(+) Solid and rather stiff crust, drawing a stark contrast to the delicate beancurd.

(-) Assorted fillings were simply add-ons to the original, except for egg white.
(-) As egg white is a light ingredient itself, it did little to enhance the original tart.
(-) Crust might be a bit too hard if you wish to cut it for sharing.
(-) Only available in box of 8s
(-) Either all original or only 1 each of the assorted fillings, no changing or substitution.

P.S: Would return only for the original beancurd tarts.

Each of various fillings, black and white sesame, black sesame, yam, red bean, coffee, pandan, green tea and original lotus seed paste.

(+) With the same crust used in pineapple tarts, every bite gives that ooomph.
(+) Fluffy crust that flakes easily.
(+) Not overly buttery, say 'NO' to shimmering oily lips.
(+) Very smooth paste in each of the pies tried, though I favoured the original most.
(+) Fresh ingredients were used.
(+) Even for the pandan and green tea fillings, it tasted rich and not mere flavouring and colouring being added.
(+) Worthy price for an exuberant pastry at S$1/pc.

(-) You need a plate to collect the fluffy flakes.
(-) Restricted to only 8pcs packaging, 1 of each.

(+) Thin layer of golden crust which was very fluffy and 'loose'.
(+) The buttery golden crust was not too heavy and melts instantly in your mouth.
(+) Very rich and generous serving of pineapple jam
(+) Strands of pineapple fibre in the jam, indicating usage of fresh ingredients.
(+) Not overly sweet, maintaining the natural sweetness of ripe pineapple.

(-) Prepare a plate to collect the flakes from the crust!
(-) Limited stomach space for more.

(+) Laces of rum trickling through insides of the dense dark chocolate.
(+) A relatively strong whiff of aroma on the 1st bite.
(+) Generous serving at approximately S$1/pc.
(+) More so for the dark chocolate than the rum.

(-) Much higher concentration of chocolate than rum.
(-) Prefer a more equal distribution, though of course that would come at a premium.
(-) Would prefer a good solid burst of rum at first bite
(-) Condensation occurs almost immediately straight from the fridge.
(-) Might leave you with some mess of chocolate melts.
(-) Only available in packs of 10 at S$10.30.

Exceptional customer service: The lady who sold the pastries to me forgot to include 1 of the 2 bottles of pineapple golf balls which I ordered. (I do not blame her because I bought quite a bit!) I was not unduly charged anyway after a check with the receipt. When I went back and explained the situation, the uncle gave me some of their freshly baked pipping hot cookies straight from the oven and handed them to me as some sort of 'complimentary'.

A humble confectionery with some extraordinary products to showcase and outstanding customer service, it would be a shame to give this place a miss.
