Saw a deal on groupon and since it was cheap ($14.80), I decided to purchase it. We had laksa soup base and herbal soup base. For 3 pax, there were 2 drumlets and 1 chicken wing and 6 pieces of small samosa and a plate of mini fried tofus (2 each).The laksa soup base was mediocre and as we were quite health conscious, we skimmed the crazy amount of chilli oil from the surface of the laksa broth so it was not spicy and perhaps it affected the taste of the laksa too. The laksa soup base was mediocre and as we were quite health conscious, we skimmed the crazy amount of chilli oil from the surface of the laksa broth so it was not spicy and perhaps it affected the taste of the laksa too. It is not worth the original price of $21.80 (as stated on the coupon) but it is decent enough to buy the coupon and try it out. The prawns were really small!

The mango pudding was too sweet.

Ambience was good - clean and simple.

The unique point about King's Laksa Steamboat, as their brand name suggests, is the option to have laksa gravy as a steamboat base. But besides this novelty, customers keep coming back to King's Laksa Steamboat for the clean and comfortable air-conditioned environment, and the above average range and quality of food.

Ambience at King's Laksa Steamboat is probably among the best when compared with other steamboat places. The interior is well lit and spacious, with comfortably large tables to place food. Overall cleanliness is very good. Despite the interior being fully air-conditioned, the ventilation here is good enough that you won't leave with a strong smell of food / cooking sticking to your clothes. Excellent!

Service at King's Laksa Steamboat is fast, but lacking in style. Staff are quite observant and will attend quickly to orders / requests, though they speak rather loudly. Also, not all staff are able to converse in English. But overall, they are efficient, and rather thoughtful as well, supplying little trolley carts to put food on if the table is full.

The range of food available at King's Laksa Steamboat is good, with over 30 items, but not extensive. However, it is good value for money.

The selection of cooked food is rather limited, such as fried dumplings, chicken wings, or chicken nuggets. However, their cooked food tends towards the greasy side, and generally isn't that good. I recommend to skip most of them, except for the pretty decent chicken wings.

The standard raw food for steamboat is available here, including lettuce, kai lan, golden mushrooms, shitake mushrooms, beancurd, fishballs, sotong balls, meatballs, sliced lean pork, chicken, beef and lamb. Most of their meat items are rather lean, and slightly healthy because there isn't much fat.

A rather uncommon selection of items is their stuffed Yong Tau Foo, which includes stuffed tau pok, mushrooms and chili. I find their technique for stuffing rather lacking, as the stuffing tends to fall out during cooking, making fishing for it in the soup very difficult. But the taste is decent.

Choice of 2 soup base. Laksa base was a must and we chose chicken soup for another. The pipping hot laksa soup base was heavenly with tau pok and cockles
~~~ It's intensive shiokness which you can't get from a bowl laksa noodles.
The chicken soup was freshly broth with chicken and not msg chicken cubes. Yes, my picky taste buds can tell the difference. So once, my tongue needed a "rest" from spicy laksa, drinking the chicken soup was really comforting.
There were some fried items included in the buffet, we ordered chicken wings and tofu, which came sizzling hot.
The restaurant was a bit funny though. Throughout our dining for more than 1 hour there, they repeated PSY's Gangnum Style non-stop. I know it's very popular and hot, but don't have to repeat the whole night ba -____-
If you have extra calorie space to spare, can pop in to try out! Must not miss out the laksa soup base!
Last minute decision to visit this place for a steamboat dinner. It was empty when we reached and was usher to a spacious 4 seats table. The shop is empty, except for 2 or 3 table of customer inside thus it wasn't as noisy as other steamboat shops (until a group of 10 students came in towards to end of our meal...)
Get to choose 2 soup base (as usual, the yuan yang style) and of cos we chose one signature laksa broth and the other the herbal soup base. Service was fast for the steamboat ingredients and they was place nicely in a large plate, good enough for the amount of people dining. Waited a bit for the fried food, which I get to know why. The kitchen staff will only fried it after it was being ordered, to ensure that these food and being served hot. How considerate they are, rather than fried a huge pot of it, cool it at a corner and served it when the customers order it. Definitely a huge plus point for me. Thumbs up for their prawn paste chicken wings - juicy and well marinated. Same goes to their fried mantou, samosa and beancurd too!
Their steamboat ingredients are the usual stuff - mixture of meat, seafood, veggies and Yong Tau Foo. Like their stuffed taupok though, after dipping them into the laksa broth. The meat however, was a little disappointment for me as they are rolled up and freeze - makes it difficult to "unroll" it back to the usual sliced one and after being cooked in the soup, the meat will become tough to chew. The chicken however, is thawed before served.
I like the herbal chicken broth aftermath - tasted sooo good (though salty) and it was one of the better one I had. The laksa broth however, was way too salty so after awhile I actually stop eating ingredients which is being cooked inside there.
There are only 3 waitresses on shift that night. It wasn't very packed so service was prompt. Guess because it was weekday night? Wonder if the service will be that fast if the restaurant is packed with people during weekends.
Think they had increases the price per person to $23.80++ instead of $20.80++. Drinks are excluded in the buffet list and each can of drinks is sold at $1.80 each.
Will definitely be back again for more steamboat!
Nestled amidst the row of eateries at Teck Chye Terrace, a little further afield from Serangoon Nex, King's Laksa Steamboat lets diners pick 2 soup bases and their choice of mixed ingredients - vegetables, seafood, meat and yong tau foo among some, all for a fixed price of $19++ per pax. It's an all-you-can-eat bonanza for the bigger eaters, who can take their pick from the variety of ingredients available for as many times as they want!
Our choice of soup bases was the herbal soup and the signature soup that gave the restaurant its namesake - laksa. While the herbal soup tasted light and nourishing on the palette, the latter was the yin to its yang, an intense spicy broth guaranteed to raise the temperature a couple of notches and an absolute pleasure on a rainy day.
Fresh seafoods and meats.
If you happen to be too hungry or impatient waiting, the cooked finger foods come highly recommended.
The fried buns were just missing a chilli crab sauce dip for perfection, fried a crispy golden-brown on the outside and yet soft, white and fluffy on the inside. Nothing much would go wrong for a couple of fried chicken wings, but those at King's Laksa Restaurant are so finger-lickin' good I can actually see myself revisiting just for the chicken wings alone.
My last finger food was Fried Beancurd, fried to a crisp on the outside, while retaining a soft, juicy centre. The contrast in texture was accentuated by the sweet thai chilli drizzled generously over the slices.
Definitely a thumbs up from me for King's Laksa Steamboat. I wonder how the fried buns would taste dripped into the laksa broth...
There's already 2 reviews talking so much about the food, i will try to approach from a different angle, i will talk about price first. Average spending per head is around $24.31 for me. We only ordered an extra lime juice on top of the ala carte steamboat buffet. Tissue is chargeable at $0.30 each and for plain water is $0.50. All the waitress here are PRCs. They ushered us to a wall seat which had the aircon vent directly blowing at me. Initially they insist i can't sit near the aisle coz ever
Initially they insist i can't sit near the aisle coz every customer wants to sit near the aisle and nobody will take a wall seat. They finally gave in after i requested to sit near the door instead. Not too impressed with customer service standard. Food wise is very average i must say, the flower crabs given were tiny without much crab meat. The other dishes are pretty much standard and i can't shout that its fresh or appealing. I do like their fried chicken and toufu though. The only differentiator is the laksa soup base which may not last you thru the whole meal, it may excite you for a while to cook in laksa soup but most of the time, we ate from the herbal soup base instead.
We were just in mood to have steamboat since it has been the raining season. When we were on our way there, the sky looked about to rain. Once we stepped in, it started to rain. Two of us were so clever that we didn't take a brolly and I thought we might just have to walk in the rain after dinner. When the soup came, every thoughts was dropped as we indulge in the steamboat. Now who cares about the rain when there's one big pot of warm in front of us? The shop house wasn't that spacious, by 8pm
The shop house wasn't that spacious, by 8pm the whole place was filled. If you are heading here, you have to beat the crowd!
For $18.80, you get to enjoy the list of food below:
What's so special here is that they offer Laksa soup and their Laksa soup is quite nice - very fragrance, not that spicy, not too bland; just right. I will like to applaud them as they make the soup just nice, so that when you add in all the steamboat ingredients the soup won't be too overly sweet neither too bland. In fact, they master it well! Which ever soup base you choose, it will definitely turn out to be nice ultimately with their fresh steamboat ingredients! There's 5 choices of soup: Signature Laksa Broth, Sze Chuan Spicy Ma-La, Chicken, Herbal or Seafood Soup
Here's some tips on making the broth flavoursome, pick fish/fishball, prawns (a dozen at least), chicken and cabbage. All these ingredients enhance the flavour, although some of you might not like cabbage and peeling of the prawn shell, well just soak it in the soup!
In due time, you will be please with the taste and probably you don't have to order for drinks!
When we asked for bill which stated the time we came and went off, I then realized we were here for nearly 2 hours - double the time we usually took. The rain had even stop by then! This shows that, the steamboat here is too good for one to care about the time!
Service here that day I went was quite pleasant, very prompt and they even had a tray beside the table for them to land the food and I was greeted when I came in and go off. Well, there are some reviews online that wasn't that positive though, so good luck to you!
For the quality of the food I will definitely say it is a green light, worth trying! The next following day, I was mesmerize by the Laksa Steamboat still.
Now for the steamboat! I choose the laksa and chicken soup base. I was quite surprised that the chicken soup base actually has seaweed and red dates which is different from the clear soup most steamboat restaurant provide. Well, even before even tasting, that does earn them a high review visually. The laksa base goes well with fresh meat and vegetable while the other food( eg hotdog luncheon meat) will be better complemented by the chicken soup base. The taste of the laksa soup base is not exceptionally great but still worth a try considering the wide variety of food. The food served are also fresh and in small servings. You’ll have to order what you want which is good( at least you know the food are not left in open air for a long period of time and it saves you from the trouble of having to squeeze to get what you want). The small serving size also ensure that there are minimal wastage (you don’t have to worry about having to pay more for wastage.)
The service is very good! The waitresses/ waiters are very welcoming and are very polite. Didn’t make a wasted trip! Very satisfied and will definitely visit again!
