Rude And Unscrupulous Hawkers From Xi Xiang Feng Yong Tau Foo stall In Ang Mo Kio

I ordered from this Xi Xiang Feng Yong Tau Foo stall in Ang Mo Kio two weeks ago, getting myself a 6-items bowl, consisting of seaweed chicken, tau pok, bean curd, cutter fish and kang kong and bee hoon, and I was charged $3.70.

Last week, I bought the same 6-items bowl and was charged $3.80. I politely questioned the male hawker about the price increase, to which he resorted, "There is no increase leh." And I kept quiet.

Today (31st March 2018), I purposely selected the same 6 items and to my nasty surprise, I was charged $4. I requested him to calculate again, informing him that I had been wrongly charged because in the past the prices were $3.70 and $3,80 respectively for the same items. Upon hearing that, the two male hawkers manning the stall turned nasty and hysterious, scolding me for making an enquiry and rudely told me not to patronise their stall again.

I ended up paying $4 for the bowl of Yong Tau Foo, wondering if there is an organisation which controls price discrepancies especially for food items that do not come with price tags.

Whenever I am not feeling well, I would think of this stall in Ang Mo Kio. As it is quite late, there is not much selection of items left in the display shelf. There is no green leafy vegetable left. The minimum order of the Yong Tau Foo is $2.50. Prices of each items ranges from $0.20 for a piece of quail egg to $1. There is rice, noodles and even chee cheong fan (which costs $0.80 a roll) to go with the yong tau foo. There is also laksa soup base which is chargeable at an additional of $0.70 f

For 7 items+ 1 roll of chee cheong fan (hi I am lucky to get the last roll), I am charged $4.10. The muddy looking soup is very thick and flavourful as a result of been cooked for a long time. The chilli sauce that served with it is very rich and no overwhelming spicy. Overall it is a tasty dish and wake up my taste bud.

We had been craving for their Chee Chong Fun Yong Tau Fu the whole week. We made it there early thinking the queue will be shorter the the previous times we were there. Pick the pieces you fancy give it to the stall holder, tell them your choice of Chee Chong Fun, Bee Hoon, Yellow Noodle or Rice. Dry, Soup or Laksa. Then join the queue which had formed.

Yum yum! This is my favourite with the yellow beans and ikan bilis, there is so much flavour. There is always queue and trust me the soup and the chillis are shiok! So much ingredients to choose from and there are special ones that you cannot find somewhere else. I have been always puzzled by why they do not sell kway teow. The best combination to eat is with Bee Hoon soup as the flavour soaked into the Bee Hoon. I will always recommend this store!!!

I had tried yong tau foo in many places in Singapore and nothing beats this stall. For me the "liao" taste more or less the same. But what stands out for this stall is the sauces both the red sweet and chilli sauce. Taste completely different. One unique additional difference is they also have chee chong fun added instead of the usual bee hoon, noodle or rice. They are also very generous with the kang kong and tau gay too, other place you got to ask for more instead.

The Price
Reasonably priced at $4.20 per bowl for decent portion.

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try for all yong tau foo laksa lovers!

What I like about this stall is the chilli, the sweet sauce, the soya bean and ikan billis soup which have been cooked for 8 hours as say by the lady boss and most important is the ingredients
The chilli is self made by the boss and taste not overly spicy and nice. The bee hoon also very springy and thicker than normal bee hoon and easily absorbed the chilli and sweet sauce
I always ordered the fried items especially the signature fried meatballs and the tofu and other ingredients also hand-made by the lady boss with the freshest ingredients early in the morning.
Lastly, the soup is very rich and sweet in taste with no MSG and with lots of soya beans and ikan bilis cooked over 8 hours !!

The Service
Even though I went on weekday evening, the queue is quite long. The guy who take down orders has super memory and can remember the orders

The Ambience
Although the stall is in a hawker center, i find that the place was well-ventilated and not stuffy hence still acceptable

The Price
Reasonably priced at $0.40 to $1 per ingredient, definitely worth the money and time to queue !!

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!

So that was my green day. I had a colleague who had themes for days. Like egg day, tofu day, chicken day. So I decided on colors. I had a brown day. Which meant fried noodles.A white day for porridge.Today was green and I decided I wanted a good bowl of greens and where else but at xi xiang feng!I took the no noodle option and I was so tempted to get myself some slippery rice rolls but I resisted. These yellow beans made the soup taste amazing!

This is a very popular stall for Yong Tau Foo in Ang Mo Kio. There are a wide range of varieties for selection and you can choose to have them with chee cheong fun, bee hoon, kway teow or yellow noodle. And, you can choose whether to have it with soup, laksa or simple chilli and sweet sauce. I always go for the laksa and one of the must order is the fried meatball and another favourite is the tau kwa with fish paste. Everything is freshly made daily with freshest ingredients. MUST TRY.
