The waiting as usual was quite fast with drink serving at first.

Finally Tom Yam was seafood and spiciness is great. The soup consists of prawns, sotong, white fish etc. Combine with white rice. The Kan lan is spicy but can be improved with cleaner look. Next roast chicken is good not only first bite but also on appearance. The chicken comes with 2 special sauce. One is sweet and sour and other is sauce soy. Both are too good to be a combination.

We also got their Mixed Seafood with Plain Rice, which are basically the same except for its rice and seafood portion. I love the grilled seafood as they are can easily be overcooked to become chewy and dry but this was not.

As westernised as I am, there's always a side of me looking for old school desserts. Pulut hitam, ondeh ondeh, ching teng just to name a few but the most revered of all has got to be chendol. Ice shavings, jackfruit, red ruby, red beans, sweet corns, coconut milk, gula meleka and let's not forget those green strips rice flour which is what define chendol as chendol.

I tired many local chendols but sadly none were even comparable to those across the bridge and much less beyond. Simply because almost everything that goes into our local ones often comes out from a metal can and all these processed ingredients aren't making your dessert better especially if it's made by inexperienced individual. Chendol ain't your healthy choice of dessert either so if I wanna have one, it's has to be worth clotting those arteries or else it's a firm NO.

I gave up on local ones, seeking only what I thought were the best on the other side of the bridge (Malaysia, especially Malacca.) but good things are hard to come by especially when it requires your passport to be scanned and stamped.

Although Thai Express's rendition is still no where near the standards of those street side ones you find in Malacca, it is still one of the better ones I slurped/stirred/digged in Singapore but it's definitely my definition of good chendol. It's even more tempting to grab one after reading the description of the menu:

"Fragrant jackfruit slices, colorful strains of chendol and chewy flour bits in a sea of rich coconut milk and traditional Thai palm sugar."

I might not be a fan of Thai food but for the a good bowl cup of chendol, I wouldn't mind having tom yum or green curry for dinner or better yet.

So after dinner i wanted something sweet and since i was walking pass Thai express, i thought why not have some thai dessert. Tried the red ruby here at Thai express and it was quite good. it consisted of sago mixed with coconut milk and atap seeds(ones in red). The coconut milk and the sago was really fragrant and delicious although it was a little heavy. The mango sticky rice was not bad and was really good.

I am not a fan of soft shell crab, so I usually just order another dish and steal the sauce from the bf. Their curried sauce is more the Japanese sweet kind, and cooked with egg. Its perfection right in the sauce, and it goes with everything.

If I'm extremely hungry, I always order an extra side of prawn toast. I have attempted making that on my own and am proud to say I have succeeded. So it may seem slightly pricey to pay for it, but its an extremely messy affair. So whenever I have the craving, I would just order that too.

Good food and don't miss out on their avocado shake, its a MUST!

Sa-Nook Thai Honey Chicken ($8.90)
Thai honey chicken with Thai Horm Mali Rice,
Green Curry Chicken Ball,
Fragrant Coconut Milk Sago with Thai Red Atap Seed
The honey chicken is abit dry. Cannot taste chicken in the chicken ball, more like potato ball. The milk sago is a warm dessert.

Sa-nook Green Curry Fried Rice ($12.90)
Thai Green Curry Fried Rice,
Pomelo Salad,
Chiang Mai Vermicelli Soup,
Steamed Sweet Potato with whipped Cream.
The pomelo in the salad tastes bitter, the soup is too peppery. The sweet potato tastes like dried version, based on its texture.

Thai Chendol ($6.80)
Fragrant jackfruit slices, colorful strains of chendol and chewy flour bits in a sea of rich coconut milk and Traditional Thai palm sugar.
Tastes of a mixture of coconut milk and normal milk.

Curry with Thai style pancake *ahem prata that's supposed to be award-winning and
these sets that were pretty value for money.

Dad surprised me with a choice of softshell crab rice with egg and green curry sauce. The softshell crab was fried well with enough crisp batter and not burnt to a crisp. The sauce was good. Green curry mixed with egg made for a thick gravy that went well with rice. This would be on my list of to-order mains next time.

Mum made an order for a green curry fried rice set that came with a small serving of vermicelli clear soup and a pulut hitam. For $12.90. She was too far away for me to take a peekture of the food. The rice was a little oily but definitely green and yums.

I wanted something soupy for my tummy and this looked just like it did in the menu.
Essentially just bean vermicelli mixed in with seafood and vegetables to be cooked in broth.
This would've been fun if it came in an individual hotpot for me to cook my own noodles.
But I suppose there's nothing quite -express- about it.
Spicy. Sweet. They could've been more generous with the serving of soup.
But this was comfort enough.

Staff at this outlet were friendly and very approachable!

Tried their Tom Yum Hor Fun for the first time. It's more spicy than I have initially expected. Do not be deceive by the innocent looks of the tom yum hor fun, as it is actually quite spicy. The hor fun was over-fried, leaving a burnt aftertaste which is quite unpleasant. The prawn wasn't fresh too. I only ended up having one prawn. Overall, it's quite a unique twist to the ordinary hor fun but I would not try this dish again.

I will definitely recommend the Fried Rice.
