Tonkotsu Ramen King ($13.90++)
Instead of the usual char Siew, it was served with stir-fried pork with ginger on top. Barely tasted the ginger, but the pork was tender and flavourful with lots of caramelised onions.

Tonkotsu Ramen Autumn ($12.90++)
The pork soup base ramen dish was topped with minced meat and finely chopped mushrooms. It added an earthy taste to the creamy and rich soup.

If you happen to visit the restaurant during your birthday, you will get a freebies too.

The ramen was not bad. The staff were friendly and chatty too.

Takeda's Keisuke Ramen restaurants are arguably one of the best places to get your ramen fix in Singapore. It has often been lauded for its rich tonkotsu broth and authenticity. On that day, I went with a couple of friends to try out the ramen from their Four Seasons restaurant chiefly because the unique decor which we had seen online caught our eye. We had previously been to Keisuke Tokyo(located at Suntec) and had a wonderful experience with the ramen there so of course, we went to Four Seasons with rather high expectations as well.

The restaurant opens at 5pm and we reached there quite early(at about 5:10pm) to avoid the snaking queues we thought such a popular restaurant would've had at its dinner hours. We were able to get a seat immediately although many seats had already been taken up. It is wise to turn up early though because when we exited the restaurant(at about 6pm), there had already been quite a long queue formed already.

The menu consists of five choices only: Spring(basil & cheese powder), Summer(spicy), Autumn(bonito flakes and fried mushrooms), Winter(simply the tonkotsu broth in itself) and last but not least[in fact, it was the most expensive of the lot], the King(ginger stir-fried pork slices). From the 5, I decided to go with the King ramen. While waiting for our ramen which arrived quite quickly, we treated ourselves to the hard-boiled eggs that came in a little basket on the table. The eggs were nothing special but were still a treat especially when dipped in the soy sauce provided. There was also a container of seasoned beansprouts which were not too bad. Furthermore, the waitress provided us with a mini pestle and mortar with sesame seeds for us to grind and add into the ramen if we wanted to(I didn't).

The ramen soon arrived and the layout of the various toppings were impeccable. I chose the ''Strong'' broth, ''Hard'' ramen noodles and ''Normal'' chicken oil. The broth was really rich and quite salty too; there might have been MSG added because I felt really thirsty afterwards. I thought the chashu was a bit dry and the pork slices a bit lacking in flavour. The large piece of seaweed provided added some visual pleasure but hardly played a part in the flavour of the broth. The ramen noodles were nicely done and firm to my liking. The flavoured onsen egg was excellent. Overall, the ramen definitely surpasses that of many ramen shops in Singapore simply due to the very tasty and pork-y broth. However, there was a huge disappointment this time round - the broth was served somewhat lukewarm and quickly became cold so it got a bit sickening towards the end where I felt I was drinking cold, salty water. Personally, I feel that the ramen I had at Keisuke Tokyo was better than the ramen here largely due to the former being hotter when served and also because the broth felt more pork-y in a way.

Service-wise could also be improved in my opinion. The female waitress who served us seemed a bit cold and I definitely did not feel the warmness of the staff in here as compared to Keisuke Tokyo.

Located at one of the quaint shop houses along Rochor road. Tonkotsu King makes no attempt to hide it's presence. On a bright afternoon i couldn't help but notice light gleaming from afar. I realized that i was staring at the restaurant all along as the light reflected from the golden signboard placed beside the restaurant's door.

Right when I opened the front door the smell of simmering tonkotsu broth engulfed me. The space was tightly packed with wooden furniture and sakuras were strung across the ceiling. There was a sense of liveliness coming from the patrons' murmuring. All these elements came together to produce a surreal feeling of dining in Japan's ramen restaurant.

Besides the wonderful atmosphere, the ramen is the main highlight of this post. I am very impressed by the amount of attention the chefs payed to preparing the ramen, ensuring the correct timing and proper technique to produce the right texture and chew to the ramen.

After preparing the ramen, the thick savory broth, which took many hours to prepare, were then scooped from the heated pot into the bowl of ramen.

And right before serving the ramen, the chashu were sliced from a thick slab it that was seared till the skin have a burnt and crispy exterior. The chashu packs a strong unami punch on the initial bite and leaves a bitter sweet charred taste that complements the unami very well, which reminds me of eating the skins of bbq chicken wings.

The ramen is not the only aspect that surpasses the common standard. Keisuke does away with selling appetizers and instead offer free eggs and marinated bean sprouts. For once i felt the service charge was truly well payed for. Overall i would say that Keisuke is one of the most affordable ramen restaurant in town that offers the best ramen and service. It is definitely a must try if you happen to be in Bugis.

So anyways I was here on Thursday night and again on Saturday afternoon and I am very certain that the chef put a ton more MSG into the soup broth today. I was dying of thirst the second I walked out. I gulped down my cup of ice water and after I paid, the cooler of barley tea meant to entertain the guests queuing up was very tempting to me! The autumn ramen broth is very thick and tasty, you may actually be able to see floating pieces of fat... a bit of a gross.. but hey! Ramen isn't exactly a 300 calories salad.. I would still happily sip the soup

Nonetheless...even being MSG ladden, I'm still keen to go back, and I've been here 4 times this year.  A huge fun of the autumn ramen $12.90++ with an addition of an egg for $2 more. I have yet to try their green tea cola in a glass bottle for $3+ . Sounds like a great cooling drink to accompany a hot day. Sadly, I'm always too full after a bowl of ramen to savour it!

The service is usually very quick, with at least 2-3 cooks and 3-4 servers. From the time, you sit down till you get your noodles, it's approx a 5-10 minutes. Sometimes I'm stunned by how fast I get my noodles, once you fill up the piece of paper with your order!

Being a fan of tonkotsu ramen, I decided to stick with the more "original flavor" one which is the Winter Ramen. The tonkotsu soup is very rich and yet doesnt have any stint of "smelly pork taste" (which do appear in some soup of some other ramen restaurant in singapore). The portion is just right, neither too small nor too full.

Green tea cola which is unique and can only be found in Tonkotsu Kings' restaurant is a must try. Taste good and refreshing although the green tea flavour isnt very obvious.

I am usually undecided about what ramen to order ( they have various ramen types according to seasons) but I usually go for the Tonkotsu King Ramen ($15-17 depending on toppings ordered). The serving size is rather big- each bowl is filled with springy ramen noodles parked with rich aromatic pork broth soup that is so slurp worthy. This ramen also comes with stirred fried pork with ginger- which is any pork lovers dream come true. Tender and flavor- the pork meat pairs well with the bowl of ramen. Although they serve hard boiled eggs free, I will definitely place an additional order for their runny eggs as I love the semi runny yolks and shoyu flavoured egg whites. The service staff are generally friendly and efficient- orders are taken quickly and food came quickly too.

Tips#
1) Go during non peak hours;
2) Ensure all your friends are arrived as they are quite strict in this so that you can be seated as the restaurant space is quite small.
3) No chicken oil for the ramen. Less chicken oil is still too oily for me.

Self order sheet- Good for customer to choose what we want.

While waiting for the food to be serve you can enjoy the free flow of seasonal bean sprouts, hard boiled eggs.

Bean sprouts- Seasonal very well & best for those who like to eat bean sprouts.

Drink:
Japanese Green Tea Cola- A must to order & very refreshing.

Ramen:
1)Autumn - Very Japanese n the soup is very thick. Order less chicken oil but still find it is too oily. Seasonal egg is Tumb up. Noodle is cook just nice not too hard & soft. Meat is tender n not fatty.

2) King- Very big portion, Seaweed is nice to go with the soup. Worth the $$$$.

Back for a second time, the first was to try the KING ramen
This time, I had the Autumn ramen, and it was just as good.

The free flow of eggs don't need anymore mention - this time I had 2 eggs.
Well, free flow doesn't mean have to keep eating it please - control your intake haha

Anyway, Autumn did not disappoint too.
The weird thing was, I asked for less chicken oil.
But my bf and I felt that my soup had even more chicken oil taste?
Anyway, the noodles i ordered was in normal texture too - it was Q and perfect - and I love it.

The pork char siew on the other hand was a little disappointing.
I didnt finish the whole big slice of char siew because it felt too tough.
I only ate the edges with the fats :X
Well, I love fatty stuffs oops

Anyway, as much as I love the ramen here, it's time to explore their other chains.!
Looking forward to other varieties of ramen they offer

I chose the Autumn season soup base, which is a minced pork based soup, while my friend ordered Summer season soup base. According to the waiter, the King ramen is the bestseller, followed by the Summer, and Autumn. The second step, is then to choose if you want the basic ingredients, or with the egg. Both my friend and I picked the latter. The third step is then to decide how you want your ramen to be, i.e. how strong the soup is,how much oil you would like (e.g. less, normal, more), and the texture of your noodles (e.g. crunchy, normal, soft). Last but not least, you can tick of what you would like to not have in your ramen. For us, we both didn't want spring onions. I found the whole ordering process clear and fun. This way we got exactly what we want!

The ramen tasted great and is one of best I have had, though a tad bit oily despite requesting for less oil. I cant imagine what would happen if I had opted for more oil.

FYI, there are free flow of eggs and spicy bean sprouts. I only had 1 egg though, not a big fan, but I do love the bean sprouts!

The King's soup was really flavourful, and I really loved the well-marinated pork slices!
Felt that the portion was a bit too much for me, but I manged to finish it though.
Bf felt the portion was small

I knew my bf would order Summer because it's the only spicy ramen.
I do think the spiciness added more flavour to the broth, but I probably wouldn't be able to stomach the whole spicy bowl myself!
However, my bf thought the spice was not spicy at all!
The Summer ramen features minced pork, with slices of char siew, blank fungus and spring onion.

Another must order is the Green Tea Coke, which is only available in Keisuke!

Will probably head back again, to other outlets with my boyfriend!

I went there during the off peak hour 3pm plus on a Sunday. The restaurant only had three other group of customers. Hence, I could get a seat immediately. Nevertheless if you need to wait, please self-help to some ice barley tea while you wait outside the restaurant. So thoughtful!

While we were waiting, we chomped on some beanspouts provided as a side dish. The beanspouts were crunchy and marinated with a sauce. My friend who is a lover of beanspouts claimed it's the nicest beanspouts ever. We finished half a bottle of the beanspouts.

Not sure if it was because we went during the off-peak timing, our Ramens came very fast... My King Ramen ($16.90) which I topped with soft boiled eggs and seaweed for $3, really made me felt like a king instantly. The pork slices were damn nice, thinly sliced and savory. Despite the description being pork slices with ginger, the ginger taste was subtle which was good because it would be weird if the ginger taste was overwhelming. The eggs were sweet, runny and melts in the mouth. Noodles were chewy.. and the most important was the soup base.. an instant umamni kick.. the soup is thicker than normal soup which was due to the pork bones being boiled for 11 hours instead of the normal 8 hours.

The Summer Ramen ($15.90), which we topped with eggs of $2, was also equally good as the King Ramen.. The soup base was rich and full of umami taste.. The chilli is made of three types of chilli: Japanese Chilli, Szechuan Pepper and Cayenne Pepper. Sounds lethal.. the soup was spicy but we can still handle it.

We also tried the green tea cola ($3.80) which was very addictive.. Sweet, fizzy and refreshing.. Hmmm tastes like drinking Coke + 7 up + sweet lemonade? However, we could not taste the green tea though the content label stated green tea is included. Nevertheless, a very special drink and a must try!

I had a Tonkotsu Ramen Winter with All Toppings. This was basically the normal tonkotsu ramen, one should have in the winter season. The all toppings added jew's ear, seaweed, soft-boiled egg and stir-fried pork into the ramen. The broth was thick and not at all salty, the ramen tasted chewy. The seaweed came in a big piece, something which I didn't really expect. The soft-boiled egg was cooked perfectly, silky and full of flavour. The stir-fried pork was excellent too, chewy and flavourful.

A definitely must come to place for a ramen lover. It is no wonder that this place is in the tops for best ramen in Singapore, though in comparisons to other ramens I have eaten this place will definitely be in the lead, making the 40 minutes that I have waited in the queue just to get seated worthwhile. Do get the Green Tea Cola while you are here!

Went early so no queue. Ordered the spring ramen for $11.90. Added $2.00 for the flavored egg. The ramen is quite filling. It got basil and cheese to add taste to the ramen. The cheese taste is not too strong. The charsu was quite tender. I like to add a lot of their marinated beansprouts to my ramen and also their free flow of boiled eggs. I cannot wait to come back for more.

Spring Ramen: Basil and Parmesan Cheese is recommended for food adventurers and people who loves cheese! Verdict: I will visit again~ but maybe in another two weeks or so. I admit the "Normal" broth (authentic Japanese taste) is really tasty but too much of it can really make me feel uncomfortable. I'm not Japanese mah.. Let me make a date with Keisuke's ramen in two weeks' time then~ and I will be choosing "Light" for my soup the next time! For full review with photos, visit:http://myfrozenremin
