The place is located in a seluded area up the hill taking over a small area of the heritage building which was previously our old police force headquarters. It's considered a hidden place as there are not obvious signage that leads you up to the place even if you are driving, not mentioning those who travel by foot. For those who are travelling by foot, you can take up the steep sheltered flight up from People Park Food Centre.

The opened space in front of Mama Shop reminded me of a deserted school area where crime scenes often take place like what we saw in the TV programs.

Mama Shop is a definite place for those who wants to have a good relaxing time traveling back into the 80s, reminiscing the childhood days. To me the place was a simple set up with a handful of my childhood items with toys like pick up sticks, Styrofoam aeroplanes etc.

We were given a "big exercise book" with the title "Mama Menu Book" to read. The assistant gave us a warmth feeling and began switching on the big fan to cool down as it was a hot sunny day.

To beat the heat, I have a regular cup of Green Bean Slush featuring Green Bean ice blended with milk topped with a scoop of green bean.

While my dining partner ordered the Red Bean Slush with red bean ice blended with gula melaka and coconut milk. Both Slush tasted as good in the hot weather.

Luncheon Fries was presented in cut luncheon contained in the canned Pork Luncheon Meat with grease paper and to be pair with some sauce. The luncheon fries were kind of over fried as it was quit hard to bite down. We would prefer something softer than that. Nevertheless, we still finished the whole tin of it.

Messy Messy Nice Nice Mama Burger. what a name! Food items were actually dished out on a tray over the grease paper. The burger came with juicy and succulent New Zealand beef patty topped with melted Gouda Cheese and Caramelized onion mushrooms.

The burgers had butter spreaded and heated up with grilled lines. Sides
added were some old school crackers. Yummy! Do note that the kitchen
requires 10 minutes of preparation time for this.

The lobster burger is perhaps what I'm there for! The canadian chillled lobster chunks and prawns in wasabi mayo sauce was sandwich in between the buns with tomatoes and lettuce.

The experience I had was something I would appreciate especially on their efforts on the part reminding us on the childhood which made us feel nostalgic. In addition, the atmosphere was also enhanced by music played from the turntable. Though the place may be a little hard to find, it's totally worth a visit if you are seeking somewhere laidback.

Located at the backyard of Chinatown, it wouldn't be an easy walk up either via the steep slope for vehicles or the steep flight of sheltered staircase. Housed in the old Police Force Headquarters, it can be considered a hidden find because from the outside, you wouldn't have known about Mama Shop because there isn't any signs or indicators of cafe/eatery in the building. With the difficult walk from Eu Tong Seng Street, very few would have even been bothered to conquer it.
Mama Shop sounds exactly like how most of us would have called the mini-marts, usually at the HDB void decks. Small shop space, selling lots of old school toys and snacks, they also serve food and drinks for those who managed to take out some time for an "exercise". Time for a celebration, maybe?
Their cashier is situated inside the kitchen, which is just right behind the only entrance of the small shop space. On the outside, laid are the old school stuffs, such as the comics, tidbits, toys, etc. Definitely a place for people of the 80's to reminisce their childhood of the past.
Peanut Prince ($4.50 for regular size) tasted like milk with peanuts being crushed and blended together. It was a refreshing drink, and might hit off with kids pretty well. Sparkling Limau ($3.50) has a strong sour plum taste, perfect for a hot weather and wetting the throat with icy cold sour drink.
Okaasan Waffle ($4.90) consists of 2 pieces of waffles sandwiching seaweed chicken and takoyaki sauce with bonito flakes, cut into half. Waffle with peanut or blueberry jam is the norm to me, but this is indeed unique. Waffle is crispy and neatly cooked till golden. If you love takoyaki and waffle, this will be another thing worth coming for.
Happy Peppy Seafood Burger ($14.90) consists of crabmeat, lobster chunks with citrus mayo and truffle fries. First taste came to me as too fishy, which I stopped after my first bite. Bread and truffle fries are ok, but main point of the burger has completely covered everything else.
Messy Messy Nice Nice Mama Burger ($10.90) consists of beef patty topped with melted Gouda cheese and caramelized onion mushrooms. I looked forward to the beef burger, but again another disappointment. Beef patty is overcooked, rather than juicy and succulent as described in their featured menu board.
Old school ambiance makes it a perfect place to chill, especially on a less hot and humid weather, and a great place to hang around with friends while sipping on drinks and biting on snacks.

This Muah Otah Roll is a must order as well! The otah meat was thick and shiok! I felt the owners were very innovative to serve the old school pinwheel crackers as a side ;)

The Peanut Prince ($4.50) is probably The Mama Shop's take on peanut smoothie. It is full both on flavour and taste, but could do with a bit more sweetness.

For Takoyaki lovers, the Okaasan Waffles ($4.90) is a must order. The waffles are crispy and the mix of the savoury seaweed chicken with the takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes, makes this an slightly less filling alternative to the octopus balls while achieving the same taste.

The Messy Messy Nice Nice Mama Burger ($10.90) consist of a New Zealand beef patty with melted gouda cheese and caramelized onion mushrooms, topped with grilled buns and served with tofu sticks. The tofu sticks are great and crispy. The bun, on the other hand, is too hard to cut into. The beef patty tasted not too bad and is briefly enhanced by the gouda cheese and the mushrooms.

Located at a more secluded corner of town, this place may be hard to access via the main road, though there is a back gate from People's Park Complex that leads to 195 Pearl Hill Terrace. If you are around the Outram Park / Chinatown area, why not visit this place for a quiet respite?
