Located close to Outram Park MRT, this cafe offers a selection of local delights (e.g. laksa, noodle soup, black sesame paste, barley with ginko dessert) at friendly prices (under $10). It has a comfortable setting for dine-in. We ordered the laksa and mango pomelo dessert. The laksa tasted average, considering that we could get tastier versions at cheaper prices. Sugar Granny cafe is better known for its desserts such as the mango sago pomelo. However, in this case, I found it less flavourful as I would have expected. Considering the affordable prices and comfortable cafe setting, I wouldn't mind dropping by for a quick dinner fix in the area. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of the food. continue reading

I think this is the only chinese dessert store around that area (or at least the only one we could find), and it was not that crowded after dinner hours. Would recommend their muah chee at $2.50 per stick with different toppings. I tried their mango pomelo sago - which really tasted more like ice blend; mango bits were lacking, and at $4.20, not very recommended. Their water chesnut dessert (cold) at $3 was also rather diluted, not recommended. continue reading

This cafe is located at Chinatown, near to my ex company. Although they a bit slow for preparing the food, the food is nice here, especially their boneless chicken and laksa. My favourite foods !The boneless chicken wing is crispy and juicy, and easy to eat. The laksa soup is tasty, not to spicy for me but if can serve with the cockles i think will be better. continue reading

This place serves up quite decent desserts at relatively affordable price. I ordered the chendol and the ice blend was really done just nice. The entire mixture was not overly sweet and I could taste some of the milk. There was this passion-fruit ice blended thingy and my friend said it was good too because there was real passion fruit (generous too). But do try the excellent chendol! continue reading

I was reluctant to order this in the first place as i was afraid it might taste and chew like rubber but itching for some fried stuff, i went for it. It was served in a basket with a thick piece of white paper at the bottom of it. I assume it should help to absorb oil. The calamari upon first bite was crispy and hot on the outside and chewy on the inside. In fact, it was too tough to chew on. Indeed tasted like rubber. It was pretty tastless. Not worth! continue reading
