Tiong Bahru Market has many hidden gems of food. While doing my food hunting in this perimeter, I came across this stall that catches my eye and nose as well as I’m quite a fan of Hainanese Food.Uncle was friendly when I ordered 1 Fish, 1 Porkchop, and 1 Vegetable.Braised cabbage was kind of cooked beyond to the point of mushiness, as some people may like it, it doesn’t work well for me.Well fried golden Batang fish was left a while on the tray but still warm and delectable and crispy on the edges. Lightly flavoured with light sauce and doesn’t smell fishy at all. Crispy pork chop was well cooked , brown and not burnt on the outside and moist and tender on the inside.Everything on the plate topped with a generous coating of savoury and flavourful curry gravy. Overall it was delicious and would definitely return. continue reading

My mother was craving for some chicken rice. I suggested this stall to her, since we saw quite a number of people queueing up for it which signals that its chicken rice is of a certain standard. She got the $2.50 plate, and I also sampled some of it. I love how the rice tasted - not too greasy and salty. I especially loved the chilli sauce. It is so spicy and tangy that I drizzled it over my white rice which I ordered from another stall. The chicken is also quite tender and goes well with the chilli sauce. The only let down was the minced ginger. Both my mother and I felt that it was slightly watered down. Otherwise, great! continue reading
