I come to Flamingg Mangos once in a while (it'd be more frequent if it wasn't so out of the way!) and I love how laid-back the place is. It's right smack in the middle of a cluster of private homes and there's all sorts of food on the menu, from pastas to steaks to bar bites and cocktails.I love their Top Shells, which is served with loads of chilli padi (warning: this can get really spicy). It goes great with beer! They also make very good pasta, and my usual is the Aglio with Prawns. Good stuff!! continue reading

This is the Breaded Chicken Cutlet in Flamingg Mangos. It is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is completely boneless. One word to describe it is AMAZING. It came with Black Pepper Sauce which greatly complimented the dish. All dishes came with a choice of Potato Wedges or French Fries. This is the Seafood Platter. It came in a LARGE portion. The platter consisted of Fish Fingers,Calamari Rings,Fried Prawns and Potato Wedges. The portion was very BIG that we could not finish it.This is the Grilled Salmon. It came with Potato Wedges and a sauce that tasted like a sambal. The salmon was very soft inside. continue reading

It’s another Western grill restaurant located @ an ulu ulu place. Strangely, the restaurant was located along ” Jalan Malu Malu”which is behind Sembawang Shopping Centre ( right at the far end ) which you would have walk for about 5 mins to get there. The restaurant is secluded & housed in a quiet environment. If you would like to enjoy lunch in a quiet place, without another disturbance, Flamingg Mangos is an ideal place.MenuThey offer a range of starters but most of them are finger-foods ( deep-fried) which are popular with the crowd ( accompany with beer).Different types of set lunch available as well which are reasonably priced @ around $12-$15.I decided to try the restaurant’s speciality by choosing dishes from the ”Mangos Selections”.Green saladSome mixed veggies drizzled with light mayo, at least the mayo wasn’t too creamy.*Poached salmon in rich fish broth, flash grilled with cajun dip ($23.90+)*comes with mashed potatoes & the mixed saladThe salmon steak was overdone and the meat was tough. The cajun dip served alongside has a hint of spiciness & sort of a ”lemak” sauce . I felt that the salmon was not well-excueted and the sauce does not balance the salmon steak.Apple pie ala mode with mango ice-cream ($6.90+)I was given a choice to choose the ice-cream flavour. Auntie told me that their mango ice-cream is very popular and almost every diner would order it. I simply had to try it to believe her words. The mango ice-cream has a mango-ey flavour and bits of mangoes in it, it was pretty decent. The apple pie, on the other-hand, failed miserably! I think they sourced the apple pie from some supplier . The apple pie had a thick and floury base, there were just a few small chunks of stewed apples and the rest were just flour.Verdict: Ulu location , food is so-so, it depends whether you would like to give them a chance. Service is excellent ( thanks to auntie ). For me, I may have to reconsider. continue reading
