One can expect eateries in the famous tourist area in Sentosa to be either super crowded or expensive. We had already expected this when we came to Universal Studios but we were very lucky to find something that we would liked to eat that does not have through-the-roof pricing as well--dimsum at Hollywood China Bistro!Hollywood CHina Bistro is set in the 'Hollywood' area in Universal studios and serves mainly chinese food like roast meat, ala carte chinese dishes, fried rice, noodles and the like. Prices are definitely not cheap but portions are huge too! Fried rice can set you back about $18 which is quite crazy. We werent too hungry and we didnt want to be too full so that we can do the super exciting Battle Galactica roller coaster without puking our lunch so we settled for dimsum. In terms of variety, it is lacking and has the usual fare like har gow, siew mai, beancurd skin roll and charsiew bao, no xiaolongbao was a disappointment for us. We ordered 5 dishes for 2 persons--char siew bao, prawn paste chicken, beancurd skin roll, fried popiah and scallop dumpling. The popiah was very crispy and definitely newly fried so it was very very crunchy to the bite though was a tad oily for me. The scallop dumplings were a super disappointment--i think they actually divided one scallop into quarters to put on top of each dumpling.. how stingy can you be??!!Beancurd roll was very good... tasty and the filling actually has a taste of its own.. not like the usual ones which you can only taste the sauce on the outside.. This dish is probably my favourite of the 5...Charsiew bao is not bad too.. given that i dun usually like to waste my calories eating buns.. except the egg lava ones but this one is very fresh and the bao was very fluffy. You can also see that there is less dough than the usual bao..Prawn paste chicken was not under the dimsum menu but listed as the side dish.. a tad oily but taste was not too bad and as the popiah.. very newly fried so it was very crispy.. thought quite expensive for 6 small wings they charge $10... Total cost was $36 with a mandatory starter of pickled cabbage at $2..Well I wouldnt say i would come back here again given that i probably wouldnt visit USS so often and there are so many other restaurants to try but for anyone looking for something affordable and satsifying while in USS can defnitely give Hollywood China Bistro a go! continue reading
