It is food outing like this that make me feel reviews platforms are important as it allows everyone including the restaurant owners to know about how well things are running at the shop. Pop by after lunch for a milk tea and kaya toast (heehee had a craving despite finishing lunch). The place is slightly dim abut is nicely decorated with cubicle seats and normal rectangular tables as well. The shock came when i was pulling out the green arm chair and saw strains of hair and paper bits on it. On closer look, i realized all the chairs were in similar condition, oldish and slightly stained but to have rubbish on it is quite a turn off. But i did not make a big fuss out of it, hesitated for 2 secs then decided to just sweep the hair and paper bits onto the floor. It took a while for my kaya toast to arrive as it was left at the counter and i had to signal one of the staff to send it to me, it was left there for more than 2 minutes actually. From far the toast bread already look weird and was further confirmed when served to me. Not the usual xin wang standard i was telling myself. Anyway proceeded to cut the toast up with fork and knife, that's where the disappointment happened, the bread apparently had a charred section, so bad that when i cut it up, the charred portion was also seen on the inner sides. it was obvious that kaya was spread over it to cover it. i wouldn't mind that its well done but at least scrap away the charred portion before adding the kaya etc. I immediately alerted the restaurant manager about it and told him to just charge me for the drink. I must applaud him for remaining calm and waiving off my milk tea charges. I do hope the kitchen staff work with him to prevent this from happening again. As for the interior and condition of the chairs, i certainly hope the management will do something about it. Having gripe so much, i must still say i love xin wang for its ambiance and food variety but if the quality is to continue to go south, its seriously going to lose more customers. Nevertheless thumbs-up for the nice milk tea. continue reading

I was really disappointed with the food at Xin Wang, and if it wasn't for the good company I had, this will be quite a disastrous night. There was a very bad traffic jam along Dunearn Rd and it was raining too, making this restaurant rather inaccessible. I must say that I was glad the place was quite empty, so I didn't have to wait. After placing our orders, they took nearly 20 minutes to serve the first dish and 30 minutes to finish serving everything - when the place isn't even half-filled! One of our orders was just fish and chips, which didn't even need much waiting time to make like the cheese baked rice with mushrooms I ordered. Then, the baked rice itself wasn't that good as well, the rice was really soggy with the sauce and the only saving grace of the dish was the cheese spread over it. The rest of my friends who ordered other dishes like their mui fan, baked rice, and fish & chips were all of lackluster quality. The most shocking thing is how awful their fries tasted like, it is the worst fries I've ever tasted. I was tempted to ask them to redo again, but my friends stopped me and reminded me of the atrocious waiting time. It was very obvious that the oil was reused, and the fries were just so crumpled and stiff. Then, whenever we needed the attention of the waitresses/waiters, it was such a challenging task. Many of them just walked past us while ignoring us when we called for their attention. When we did get their attention finally, they didn't even bother to be polite or smile but just "okay" and fulfill our request. Overall it was a terrible experience and I am never going back there again and will advise my friends against going to this place. Nothing worth going for, and the money could have been better spent elsewhere. To think they actually charged GST! The meal actually cost around $18/pax for just a main course and a drink, which is terrible. Not worth it at all. continue reading

we often eat at the springvale branch, so while we were in the area, we decided to try see if the shanghai chicken cutlet fried rice is consistent. and yes it tastes just as good! the same fragrant rice trademark and the tender juicy chicken cutlet.spicy sichuan chicken hotpot (limited special) was tasty, but the portion wasn't too much. abit inconsistently sour on some of the meat.Manager was friendly and service was good. Quiet place, good place for supper. continue reading

Xin Wang Hong Kong Café is a chain restaurant serving hong kong cuisine, they do sell western and asian too. The staffs here mostly speak chinese and do not comprehend when english is spoken, maybe this is one area where they can improve on. The food is so-so, I decided to go for the western food instead of the usual soup noodles. I ordered a grilled pork chop that came with fries, coleslaw, baked beans and a sunny side up. It was like food court standard, edible and came readily quick but not anywhere near appetizing. Not too pleasing. continue reading
