I visited Arab St for dinner with a bunch of my girlfriends. We decided to settle for a small Egyptian place(which was very dusty and looked more like a carpet shop in my opinion) for dinner due to the novelty factor. I am personally not a fan of middle eastern cuisine where we have to sit on the carpeted floor cross legged amongst wafts of sweet shisha smoke in a dim setting, not at all.I ordered the chicken wrap for $9.90++, and even though the pita was a bit hard, the chicken filling inside was admittedly quite good!!!! The fresh chicken was cooked with spices in an orangey curry-like sauce that tasted good when piping hot, with fresh onions and wrapped in warm pita bread. A pity the pita was slightly hard/thick, if not this wrap would have been perfect! My friends ordered the shish kebab and they commented that the meat portion was substantial, served with wedges/fries and a salad on the side. I'm not a fan of lamb nor do I eat beef so I guess I'll never know how those shish kebabs taste like -they have chicken too if I'm not wrong, but the portion seemed quite large given that I wasn't very hungry. The food is average, I guess, but the ambience is .... it's just not my thing, especially since the whole restaurant looked dhingy and dark and dusty. The carpets didn't feel very clean either and I always felt paranoid sitting on the dusty carpeted floor...couldn't wait to get out of that place it was too stuffy in my opinion. The service was also slightly dubious, when we showed signs of difficulty in calculating the bill split per person, he took our receipt and manually counted it, counting ~$3 extra per person. By now, I decided to count the bill-split by myself and we paid exact and left.I won't come back to this place, the servers are no where near to be found half the time, the waiting time for our food was at least 20 minutes, the ambience is not clean and also dark, and the price of the food is not worth the quality of it. I also question if this is authentic Egyptian food ...I don't think so.

We decide to search for great arab food in arab street & found Altazzag! We started off with HUMMUS & PITA BREAD which is AMUST!We decided to order a grilled fish dish & a beef kebab dish.It was served with rice & generous amount of vegetables. It was really delicious.& pretty affordable as well. They had spaces upstairs as well but we decide to stay ground floor instead. The fish & meat were well marinated.& the hummus with pita bread was good as well. The orange juice was refreshing & quenched our thirst.Nothing outstanding when come to Arab food but I really love the rice & that the proportion were healthy in the sense that there are vegetables as well.Satisfying meal.Wouldnt come back again though. Will try other arab food in arab street.

We just suddenly feel like eating something middle east after an exhibition, so the adventurous us brought our other frens to try out this Egyptian Restaurant @ Haji lane. We find the food was pretty good, but some frens can hardly accept the special spices. The price is not expensive but the portion is pretty small.Service was ok but the boss is very naggy & the ver bad thing is that he kept smoking non-stop besides us! Very unappetizing... make us cough as we eat. It's better if he let us alone =.=
