I had a pleasant experience at the other branch, so I decided to have my tea here instead of elsewhere. They have quite a variety of cakes and tarts like the valrhona dark chocolate tart which I was itching to try but decided not to in the end since my throat isn't feeling too good. I settled for the cheesecake instead and I wasn't disappointed. The cake's texture is very good, moist and not too dense. The taste not too heavy and I have no difficulty finishing the whole slice by myself. Next time I will be back for their dark chocolate tart. continue reading

Black offers decent coffee, they serve all day breakfast and the sandwiches pretty good. Sometime, I'll have brunch there if time allows. The decor is very 1970s â old black and white tv sets, furniture with wooden flooring. It is considering the expensive coffee in 111, because at the opposite side, served the coffee & toast at only 1.2 per cup. However, I prefer black because it is has a very nice and strong coffee aroma. I love their red velvet cake. continue reading

Visited this cafe a couple of times as it's really a good hide out away from Orchard Road even it's just a street away. Once entered in, you will find the chairs and sofas are different from one another and they have a few display of rectro furnitures and a tv. We love the atmosphere eventhough it's a open concept where is situated in a follyer, omit that and the apple crumble is what we love! They served it warm with vanilla pod ice cream or manuka honey ice cream and both just as nice to have it with. Mind you, advise you better to share cos it can get very heavy half way through. continue reading

I recently got a voucher to this place, and since i was in the area today, I decided take the opportunity to use it.Before i touch on the food, i must say that this place is the perfect hideout from all the hustle and bustle in the middle of town. Located just at the entrance of SomersetTripleOne (the builiding beside Scape Youth Park), Black Coffee Dessert Bar provides a peaceful setting for those who are seeking to escape the drowning crowd and noise outside. Great for quiet dates and client meetings (or any other situations in which you actually need to be heard). It was happy hour (5-8pm Mon-Fri, 2 for $10 hosuepour) so me and company got ourselves a gin and whisky to unwind ourselves for the day. Being full from dinner, we decided to share a piece of carrot cake that the staff reccommended. That was before i eyes the red velvet cake on display, which i am going to save for my next visit. Nothing much to say about the alcohol because it's pretty much the same where ever we go. The cake sat well with us - moist and not too dense, with a fair amount of raisins and walnuts and, wait, was that pineapple chunks i thought i tasted?? My only critique would have to be about the texture, which i thought was a tad too coarse. Oh, and less mascarpone in my frosting please, but that's just a personal preference.Other than that, the cafe also offers a range of drinks and solids, including an all-day breakfast menu. Prices lean toward the higher side, but service is also one above what you would get at your regular Starbucks of Coffee Bean stalls. You can check out their menu here: http://www.thisisblack.com.sg/menu continue reading
