A simple and stylish looking place from outside. It is located in the middle of a row of shophouses, next to the Tanjong Pagar Community Centre, within walking distance from the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. At 10am in the morning, the cafe is crowded but still we managed to get a big table at the back of the cafe. Have a kind of cozy feeling, as if we are dining in a private room. Menu is available on the board, so no menu will be given to you at the table.Darling's Eggs ($7.50/ single slice, $14.00/ double slices)poached eggs with ham, cheese & roma tomatoes on sourdough toastI have a single slice order. It looks simple and tasty. Like the yolk flowing out like lava.Cafe Latte ($4.20 regular/ $5.20 large)The coffee is made of genovese coffees and served in a glass with latte art on top. Tastes average, but I feel a bit light. I would prefer a stronger taste. The concept here is quite interesting. One pays in cash on the way out after eating. There is no order list. There is no GST and service charge. So just remember what you have ordered and tell the cashier. Like the way they trust the customers. As we are a big group of people, some of the dishes are served after some of us have finished. So one can see waiting for the food may take quite awhile. The menu is quite limited too, as one guy remarks that there is only poached egg, no scrambled egg which is his favourite.

Plain toast with earl grey jam, normal jam and butter $6. Iced Generra $7The plain toast was chosen by my bf because he wanted something to go with the coffee. I find it not worth the $6 paid as it was very ordinary. The toast was served warm though which was good. The earl grey jam had a rather subtle taste of earl grey and it definitely would have been better if the taste was stronger. The iced generra was good but I prefer the hot version. Service was friendly overall.

After our team lunch, we decided to have some coffee & dessert before heading back to office. One of my colleague recommended to have it at the plain. It is along the street along craig road. It was kind of not that "obvious" cause i barely see the cafe even though i was just directly opposite it. Ice Mocha - Quite disappointed with the drink. It was too bitter for me even though it had some chocolate syrup in it. I also found it too thick .

I am not too sure why they name their cafe The Plain. But it was indeed so plain outside that I missed it twice. I was trying to look for it and walked past 2 times and still cannot find it. My sister had to come out of the cafe before I can be "transported" into the plain cafe. It's actually a very cosy joint. Pretty relaxed to be sitting in there and enjoying a cup of my favourite mocha. I love the way it was being presented. Not your usual latte art. With the chocolate smudged all over the cup, it gives it's presentation quite a character. The coffee is good. Tasted just right for what I imagines a good cup of mocha should be. Thumbs up for coffee and ambiance. Service was very friendly and prompt as well.

It was my first and last time at The Plain. It is nested at a stretch of shop houses and next door neighbour is an antique shop. There was a crowd of white collar workers from nearby offices sipping their coffees and talking shop early in the morning. You may have to sit at the communal table if there are no tables left. We ordered half a dean's toast and half ham and cheese (darlings) ..both with eggs. Each costing $6 is really on the steep side!! I mean i can easily make these at home. It was ok for the first time..but I prob wouldn't return again unless for coffee
