It's true that you can smell the good food all the way from outside. That's the reason why I stepped into Ah Guan in the first place.I used to come here regularly, now it's just every once in a while. I have to say, they have the prettiest mee pok here. Look at those shells! Medium's a good size to order, but it never seems to be enough. Ask for extra chilli and vinegar!Other dishes I love are their porridges. Served in a claypot, it's A LOT for a small price, you can even share it. continue reading

I read good reviews given for their mee pok so made this special trip just to try it. I was left with disappointment after the first few mouthfuls. It was not as good as stated in those reviews. I did not have scallop in my $5 bowl of mee pok as shown in their picture. It was replaced with sliced fish, a slice of artificial abalone, prawn and minced meat. The texture of mee pok was abit too soft to my liking. I guess this is going to be the only time for me. continue reading

My upmost credit to ieatishootipost.sg for this post. If not for its blog, I would not have noticed the stall. Lately I have been hanging around Jalan Besar area and I have to confess I have walked passed the stall twice but never stepped inside. Indeed the mee pok dry was very special and good. The mee pok seemed shorter and more "Q" than the norm. The sauce for the mee pok was very good that gave it a very unique and special flavouring. In the bowl of mee pok dry, there were prawn, fish cake, scallop, minced pork and lean pork.To get here, alight at Farrer Park MRT station, walk towards Mustafa Centre and stroll down Syed Alwi Road. At the traffic junction between Syed Alwi Road and Jalan Besar Road cross the junction and the stall is behind New World Centre along Syed Alwi Road. continue reading

Ah Guan Mee Pok has been highly raved on certain food forums or websites. We made a special trip to go by and tried it on a Sunday afternoon. It is a shop by itself within walking distance from the City Square Mall. We ordered their Signature Mee Pok at $5.00. After paid up, we took a seat and waited. Our bowl of noodle was served in 10 minutes to our table. I could not find that piece of scallop as shown in their picture for the $5.00 portion. They seemed to replace it with extra slices of fish. Other ingredients found were a slice of artificial abalone, minced meat, slices of lean meat, slices of fish cake and 2 pieces of prawns. After mixed it well, the very first mouthful was a disappointment as nothing spectacular about the texture of the mee pok nor the chilli to make it an outstanding one. I would still very much prefer the other famous stall at Ang Mo Kio to this particular one. The bowl of soup that came along with noodle was lukewarm. I am quite certain i would not be back again. continue reading

Let me start off with the hate of this dish. which is their chilli. Not only is it extremely oily, it tastes good too! The irony!Noodles give the Q Q texture and the prawns are of reasonable freshness. The same goes for the fish cake which they sell it by itself too.Soup wise, there was not much taste to go about it but it was fragrant. Probably the stall's way of washing down the oily chilli? continue reading
