Introduction
Decorated specially using natural bamboo, wood and washi (Japanese rice paper), the Tontei brand creates a simple yet elegant dining space for their guests. Being a pork specalised restaurant, Tontei features its crispy golden brown Tonkatsu pork cutlets, which are doubled-fried first in low temperature oil, then dipped in high temperature oil to retain the meat’s natural juices. Shabu Tontei, the newest extension of the Tontei brand presents you an assortment of gently sliced premium Japanese pork, gently cooked in light broth and dipped in a citrusy ponzu or goma (sesame) sauce. It is recommended to end the meal on a lip smacking note by pouring a bowl of rice into the remaining broth to make delicious zousui (Japanese porridge). At Tontei, only premium and freshest ingredients are used to ensure their guests enjoy the best home style dining experience. continue reading

I visited tontei pork restaurant with my family, this shop is located at the corner area at the japanese street area along with other japanese store.Food was really great, especially the pork cutlet. for me, i order the jumbo pork with the sashimi set combo, which is about 23.90 if i dont remember wrongly. but the portion was really huge for the pork cutlet! so be prepare to be really filled up after the whole meal. The sashimi is yummy. continue reading

It's a quaint and quiet restaurant with Japanese chatter around. Must be good if the natives are dining here. It's one of the restaurants under the RE&S group. Yup, the people behind Ichiban chain of dining and also Men-Ichi next door and The Green Pumpkin just opposite. Of course, there was also Ichiban further up from here. They basically monopolized the Japanese food street in Nex. I'm not complaining with all these dining options made available by my favourite Japanese family store. Let's get some starters shall we?Just my brother and I, we decided to share a breaded squid balls topped with cheese. It was a pretty sight. But these caps of cheese, if they could just be a bit more melty, I'd have given it higher marks. The salad was a good palate cleanser but I did wish they had some salad dressing on the side...We shared a kurobuta pork slice set. Tender slices of pork left to boil on a hotplate with cabbage and savoury sauce. This was a delight to go with rice. Might be a tad too salty on its own.A couple of slices of sashimi, smooth chawanmushi and orange slices to end off the meal.It was a good meal, although their menu items might seem a little more expensive than the ones offered at Ichiban outlets, I gladly paid for their quiet surroundings and generous servings.Time to come back with the parents soon! continue reading

Went to the Tontei Pork Restaurant at Nex Mall. It was during dinner time and we waited about 30 mins before a table was available. The service staff were proper and nice as they keep coming out to check on us in the queue. Ordered the Set meal that comes with the breaded pork fillet and oden. It also comes with chawanmushi as well as a small serving of udon. The pork fillet is pretty crispy and nice but its the chawanmushi that beat all hands down. Silky soft and with lots of ingredients inside. It's a waste that its only that small a serving.Overall, reasonable japanese food with a crew of friendly staff, but the price is abit steep in my opinion. Tontei still did not make me want to give up returning to Kazokutei at Junction 8. continue reading

For detail review, please check my blog: http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2013/05/dinner-at-tontei-pork-restaurant.htmlThis restaurant has a concept similar to the Tonkichi, they specialised in Pork dishes and had wide selection of pork cutlets and pork related dishes. It belongs to one of the numerous Ichiban concept outlets. After checking out their promo menus, I decided to dine at Tontei.Lotsa bamboo were used as the main decor theme. The restaurant isn't very big so their design concept was kept simple and functional. For today's drink, I chose the Mango Delight soda $4.60++ with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...it looks pinkish in color but really tasted like mango juice when I sip it. Nice and refreshing! For main meal, I picked the Hakata Fu Cabbage Nabe set $19.90++ that consists of pork belly slices, hard boiled egg, tofu, mushroom and cabbages in a hotpot filled with Hakata styled soup. It is served with fried breaded mini scallops, chawanmushi, miso soup, appetizer, rice and fruit. The impressive looking set meal...This is how it looks like when the pork belly is cooked and ready to be served...The pork belly dipping sauce is actually katsu sauce with some peanut bits...goes well with the pork belly slices. The Hakata soup is very flavorful with bits of porky goodness floating on the surface. The assorted veggies and egg were fresh and a delight to eat.The mini breaded scallops were nice but the scallops were a bit tiny, however the breaded coating was well done and super crispy...overall still good. The chawanmushi is not bad, smooth and light with mushroom and prawn meat inside. The cucumber appetizer was refreshingly crunchy. The miso soup and fruit were pretty standard affair.Service here was prompt and friendly...no complains. And, this sums up my pretty satisfying dinner!Tontei Pork Restaurant23 Serangoon Central, Nex #B1-79Singapore 556083Tel: 66347116Website - http://www.tontei.com.sg/ continue reading

Me and my friend were attracted by the katsu pork from the display so went in for a try.I ordered the Hire and Minced Katsu Zen. The set included pork tenderloin and minced pork cutlet, assorted sashimi ( 5pieces),rice, miso soup, chawanmushi (small), appetizer and fruits! It looked quite worth as the combination was very appetizing. The pork was fried just nicely, not too dry and the meat was juicy enough. But sashimi was not very fresh. As for my friend, he ordered the Kurobuta(black pork) Oden Shabu Shabu. The black pork tenderloin cutlet was tender. The combination was served with udon instead of rice. Sliced black pork belly was given for the Shabu Shabu. It was thinly sliced and went very well with the soup. There were squid balls, egg, cherry tomatoes, tofu, bamboo shoot and radish in the soup. Thus it gave a very natural sweet taste to it. And it did came with another miso soup. The food was really nice and filling. We enjoyed our dinner a lot. continue reading
