Signature Dishes
It was my dad's birthday and just nice Bengawan Solo was right in front of me so i decided to take a look. What caught my eye immediately was the coffee cake so i got one ( regular size $22.80 ). Personally i like it. Thick fragrant cream with nice coffee taste, the sponge cake texture can be softer. Overall a decent cake! Even my dad liked it too =)

Bengawan Solo has different cakes to choose from for birthdays and any other occasions and they have lots of cartoon characters cakes that we can choose from, for example, you can choose Mickey, Minnie, Superman, Batman, Pooh, etc. My son is currently into Transformers and I am so happy to know that Bengawan Solo has Transformers Design cream cake too. So I bring my son to choose himself and he decide to choose this Optimus Prime Design Cake. At Bengawan Solo, we can choose the flavour of the cake, the fillings you want and the type of cream you want. My family members are fans for Pandan Cake and so we decide to choose pandan flavour for the cake and fresh cream. Their Pandan cake is very nice with strong taste of pandan and the cake is soft. My guests are all very happy with cake too. For this party, I ordered the 2kg cake at the price of $45 per kg.

I have always liked the thousand layer colourful kueh from Bengawan Solo from the time I was a kid; Bengawan Solo has one of the best kuehs. I walked past and got myself a slice of it. The kueh was very soft and smooth, and you could peel off the different layers one by one, which tastes much better than biting it as a whole. It is also not too sweet. All in all a very enjoyable snack.

After our shopping, we are slightly hungry and we decided to proceed to the stalls at the basement to grab a bite. We bought a box of six ondeh ondehs. I only remembered to take a photo of it after my mum and I each had one, hence there is only four in the photo. It is really tiny but full of flavour! The mini ondeh ondehs just burst when you bite into it, such that you get to taste all the yummy guala melaka that is at the centre of each ondeh ondeh. What I appreciate about the ondeh ondeh from Bengawan Solo is that almost all of the ondeh ondeh are intact, there are very few times when there is some guala melaka that has seeped out. Each box of ondeh ondeh costs $2.40.

Had the chocolate hazelnut cake from bengawang solo. The sponge was chocolate flavored with layers of cream sandwiched between. The sponge was light and fluffy, being quite fresh, while the cream was smooth. The whole cake was covered in a sort of chocolate frosting/coating, which was rich and absolutely decadent. There were also fresh berries on top of the cake which provided a nice burst of flavor!
