Before catching our late night show at Shaw, we had a nice and authentic Japanese dinner at Hoshigaoka. We were spoilt for choice by their extensive menu which spots of more than 50 over dishes! Their offerings are unique and the food quality is great!Hoshigaoka Zen ($33.60++)Consisting of an array of petite dishes including: appetizer, sashimi, amaebi salad, tempura, teriyaki cod fish, beef misoyaki, rice, chawanmushi, miso soup and even matcha ice cream, this is definitely a feast not to be missed! I especially loved the sashimi which is fresh and succulent. The beef was the other highlight of the set as it was really tender and well marinated. Ishiyaki Steak ($17.70++)This was more of a ‘visual’ dish as we had fun cooking our beef to a doneness of our choice. It was simply enjoyable savouring bite size pieces of all natural, fresh and juicy meat. Green Tea Tiramisu in Chocolate Cup ($6.80++)Two thumbs up for this heavenly dessert! The rich green tea tiramisu simply melts in your mouth and leaves a lingering green tea fragrance aftertaste. The dark chocolate cup was a perfect “post dessert” complement and we spared no time in cracking it into bite size pieces to munch on. Overall, it was a gratifying meal that leaves us anticipating our second visit here. continue reading

Restaurant Hoshigaoka is perched on level 4 of Shaw House. As far as I can tell, it's not accessible via the main escalators running up from Isetan to Lido on level 6. You would have to get onto level 4 via escalators within Isetan itself. Maybe it''s the locale ,but even during peak period at dinner time, the restaurant was pretty much empty and quiet. We were welcomed by a waiter and ushered promptly to our seats. Salmon Don - $14.50 I ordered the Salmon Don which was a very simple dish indeed - raw salmon served on a bed of sushi rice. Simple, yet eloquent. The thin pieces of salmon were fresh and literally melts in the mouth. Dipped in light soy sauce, it went really well with the fragrant sushi rice. For those who like extra heat, the dish is served with a dollop of wasabi as well. The only gripe I had was the very thin bed of rice My chopstick barely went through an inch of rice before it struck the bottom of the bowl. At $14.50, it really irks me that barely 3 hours after the Don, I was already hunting around for a more substantial meal. So big eaters beware. It might take a toll on your wallet to get full here! continue reading

We were really surprised by the quality and standard of the food. It's as if it was cooked very carefully and with attention to detail. The rice was cooked just right and not hard or soggy - perfect! The chawanmushi was really good too - very smooth and lots of surprises in it! We were very surprised with the staff friendliness and they even offered to top-up our green-tea even thou we did not ask for it. Environment is very cosy and comfortable, would be a good place for small group of friends gathering as well. continue reading

First visit to Restaurant Hoshigaoka, recommended by a friend. We order one main set and dessert each. The Ten Don was delicious, with the rice just cooked (not too hard / soggy) and ebi was really really fresh. 5 stars for their desserts, priced only at $6.50 you will be able to get an apple pie + green tea ice-cream + red bean set. Thumbs up for their green tea ice-cream, it's really good with very strong taste. Not forgetting their apple pie, you can simply taste the huge piece of sliced apply in it.We were very surprised with the staff friendliness and they even offered to top-up our green-tea even thou we did not ask for it. Environment is very cosy and comfortable, would be a good place for small group of friends gathering as well. Location wise is very accessible, just drop at Orchard MRT and walk all the way underpass to reach SHAW Towers. It's sheltered all the way! No worries for rain or sun Price wise is average for Japanese Restaurant - average spending for a meal of 2 (with desserts) was $26.00. Will sure to visit again! continue reading
