Coming to a thai restaurant I did not expect the fried rice with beef to be fantastic since this is not a very thai dish. However we were floored by this fried rice. Upon first impression it did not look good at all being moist and looking soggy. However it was filled with flavour and generous slices of tender beef! The rice had lots of wok hei too and the portion was huge for $100. continue reading

Jai thai has good thai food at really reasonable prices. The range of dishes is really extensive too as the quality is really good for the price. We came here with a group of 7 people and hence ordered large portions for most of our dishes! We were really pleasantly surprised with the large portion sizes and ate to our hearts content. The tang hoon with tofu was especially good tasty and not too oily. I was also very impressed with the fried fish with Thai chilli sauce. Each piece of fish was perfectly fried and was juicy and succulent. The accompanying sauce had lots of flavour too! This huge dish only cost $12. continue reading

The Phad Thai noodle dish here at $5 is priced even lower than the version served at the Food Republic food court at nearby 112 Katong Mall which costs $6. Jai Thai's Phad Thai tastes a little bland but some chilli flakes or a spoonful of prik nam pla will take care of this. The portion is not huge but Jai Thai's chef is very generous with the ingredients - there were five shrimps and plenty of chives, bean sprouts and egg in my Phad Thai. The only thing I would wish there was more of is the chye poh. The set meal at $6.80 comes with your choice of beverage (coffee, milk tea, Chinese tea, iced tea or lime juice) and dessert of the day (usually konnyaku jelly or tako). Great value; friendly staff too. continue reading

My favourite Thai dish has to be Tom Yam seafood noodle soup and over here, you get to choose between the cloudy and clear soup versions! I've been here previously before and learnt that they don't make it the usual spicy-ness if you don't request for it, in fear that you might find it too hot, so I was fairly disappointed the first time. However, lesson learnt and I made sure I asked for spicy this time around. And it was good. continue reading

This one is a small Thai joint, easy to be missed. So better keep a lookout. We had been to this place twice and had good experience on both the occasions. We had one green curry, rice and chicken and basil fried rice and coke - all under $15! The curry tasted nice, with well cooked chicken; nice and strong flavour of lemon grass, slightly spicy for my tastes. but awesome taste nevertheless. The other occasion I visited was a weekend, I was not prepared to wait 10-15 mins before getting a table.(yeah the place was full and no surprise why) We chose to do a 'take-away' instead. The food is nice, service is good, the place is quiet ok.. I liked it coz I get good food in a restaurant'ish setup at the cost of foodcourt meals! Makes my day! continue reading
