Customers would sit around the teppanyaki table ( if ya dunno what I meant, just go foodcourt see lah!) wearing little orange aprons so that customers will be stain-free. Put aside how ridiculous we looked with the aprons on, isnt it thoughtful of the resturant owner? =)Garlic Fried Rice!Yup! I fall in love with this when I first ate it at Sakae Teppanyaki, simply delicious! I think it's nice on its own, even without any other dishes to go with. It was even true here because I couldnt finish my bowl of rice as we kinda ordered too much... so I suggest to share 1 bowl between 2 pax just to have a taste of it... ^_^Sliced beef in teriyaki sauceThis was not too bad, but best if consumed while steaming hot.Tiger Prawns in processing...The completed product!Oh, definitely my favourite! It was amazing how the chef was able to shell the prawns using his "tools", and he did that with such skills! He even pan fried the prawn heads, even though I was not too sure whether we were suppose to eat the prawn heads as well or simply an act to allow the chef to display his performance further.. Assorted MushroomsWe sort of regretted ordering this as well, coz our teriyaki beef came with mushrooms. Wasted $$$So next time you come here to dine, strategize your order! Dun anyhow order like me and ended up wasting food and money... Keke.. I misplaced the receipt, but I remember the bill amounted to roughly $60+. The price came with the usual free flow of green tea, towel, dessert and charges. And do please remember to make a reservation, coz even though it is ulu, you will be surprised that take up rate is kinda high... ^_^To view photos and read more, please visit http://fun-hideout.blogspot.sg/2009/07/hill-top-japanese-resturant_28.html continue reading

Once again, I'm back at my favourite Hill Top Japanese Restaurant. When you face the entrance, turn left for Japanese dining and right for Indonesian dining. The interior of the Japanese restaurant strongly mimics a traditional Japanese tearoom. It's a really beautiful, and comfortable atmosphere to rest or even have an informal meeting with colleagues or clients.Ten Zaru SGD$12.00This delicious cold soba is genuinely authentic from Japan. With a slightly cracked pigeon egg at the centre of the noodles, it is apparently a raw pigeon egg that you are supped to eat with the soba. Of course, I couldn't stand the idea of eating a raw egg, and didn't try it.Here's a close-up of the raw egg, go on and eat it brave soldier! The Ten Zaru also comes along with fried Ebi prawns, it was fresh and delicious but the size was rather small. It isn't as oily as I thought it would be, and I guess they have dried the oil pretty well!Teryiyakii Beef Ramen - SGD$9.00This isn't as good as I expect it would be, the beef was tender and delicious but the soup wasn't thick enough. The noodles were springy but causes me to feel full after awhile.Garlic Rice - SGD$4.20One of the best garlic rice ever eaten! I could eat it plainly simply like this, its' really delicious and also quite filling with just one bowl.Agedashi Dofu (Tofu) - SGD$6.00It was a rather disappointing side dish because the glutinous texture of the skin was gross, chewy and drips off like a sticky glue. The tofu was rather soft and smooth, but the skin didn't fit it at all. I wouldn't recommend the Agedashi Dofu if you're particular about the skin!Katsu Don - SGD$10.00This katsu don is really worth every penny, the portion was huge and the restaurant was extremely generous with the chicken. The rice, topped with Japanese sweet sauce, was a heavenly match with my taste buds! The rice, sticky and chewy, went really well with the fresh chicken. In conclusion, not every menu item is consistently delicious; and the service there was alright, nothing too fanciful but not poor at all. continue reading

By the time we left Jurong Birdpark, it was already 3pm. We haven't had our lunch so I asked hubby to follow the signage that led to Jurong Hilltop Restaurant, which is a bit further up from the birdpark. Reached the carpark gantry, the parking fee is $3. We found our way to the restaurant which is at the basement of a swirling staircase. Reached the restaurant and we realized that we were the only customer!! Oops.. feel quite awkward. They served 3 types of cusines here and I requested for Japanese Teppanyaki. On every table, you will find a folded orange apron and the staff will help you wear the apron once you are seated. =PI ordered the garlic rice ($3.50) and venison set ($14). The garlic rice tasted really really good! Really left me craving for more.Hubby ordered the beef set.The chef will divide our portion of venison and beef for us so each of us have a plate of venison and a plate of beef. The set also comes with a plate of beansprouts. My suggestion for you is if you want to come and try out this restaurant, maybe you should come here for dinner. After dinner, you can have a very nice night view of Jurong/ Tuas area at the hilltop as well - Romantic? continue reading

FoodTeppanyaki on a hilltop - hmmm... the idea of having a birthday dinner over there feels good. The last time I have been year it's like 10 years back, well... I would say that nothing has changed... the thing that only changes is perhaps their staff faces... I dont know... Let's take a look at what my treat is all about. The "Ah Char" and Braised sotong are our starters after placing on our "bib/apron" provided by the restaurant.Look what we had ordered! A specific cook for the night will go to the kitchen, prepare the ingredients for our dish and place it near the teppan. The cook prepare the Venison (deer) meat before our eyes, professional! Since we are the first customer of the counter, he is polite to asked if we want "slow-cook" or "fast-cook" of course, we have chosen the slower way. The fried olive rice was cooked by the kitchen and not our designated chef. Comes only in a bowl and yammy! It's delicious! Every mouthful of rice scoop up using my chopsticks, I get to see the olive substances in it. Smells good! * Thumbs up*Scallops over the Teppanyaki is different. Scallops are fresh, soft and tangy feeling. For every of portion the chef cooked, he will place equally amount on my plate and on my friend's. We have a choice of chawanmushi or miso soup. We ordered both. As for the miso soup, there is nothing special in particular. For chawanmushi, I like the ingredients inside, mushrooms and crab meat given were ample. Crab meat provided are those better in quality - Japanese ones, you can tell from the taste, it tastes different and the color is different from the local made ones we had from the super marts/markets.This is not pork! Maybe the presentation doesnt looks good but this is definitely a must try! Foie Gras! A little oozey with a slightly crispy outside. A bite on it and it so silky on your tongue. It's sooooo good! The way the chef cut the asparagus into pieces are too skillful for me to mention. Teppanyaki mushroom filled with garlic. Soft, flavorful and great as usual!Beansprouts were compliments from the restaurant. After a few plates served, there were more customers and they ordered beef! There was big flame over our counter and this is where majority of the smoke comes about.Desserts are compliments from the restaurant too. We have chosen honey dew sago and mango pudding. Nothing to shout about but honey dew sago is full of coconut's taste. . However we enjoyed our desserts over at the desserts corner - the staff will usually bring the customers over to this corner for desserts after the teppanyaki session.ServiceService is definitely there - above average but not excellent. Once in a while, the waitress will come over to our seats and top up the tea for us. Also when we were seated surrounding the teppanyaki corner, they assist us to put the apron over our neck. Ha! I felt like a baby with a bib over my neck! AmbienceThe hilltop restaurant does offer other cuisine like the indonesian cuisine at the other end of the restaurant. The chairs over there were not as comfy as the Japanese restaurant. Atmosphere looks abit run down and like the restaurants in the shows during the 70s / 80s. During the teppanyaki dinning it will be smoky of course as customers are seated in front of the cook.PriceQuite a bomb, spending about over $100 and average of $60 per person. It's a good for experience and maybe it's located in Hill area, that is why price are abit steep.Recommendation / TipsA quiet place for dinner and usually after dinner, we will smell of smoke. After dinner, we can walk up and down the hills, however do note that you may need to bring insect repellant as I'm bitten by the mosquitoes. continue reading

i went there for lunch. We drove all the way from tuas to jurong bird park, LOL ... really a long way. but suprisingly there were many customers having lunch there even the location is far. climbed the tower after lunch, on top have a view of jurong shipyards... the view reduced my appetite, hahaservice is just so so maybe due to lack of manpower? feel the table is not very clean, can see oil mark... but for that price for that location, guess it is normal. food is normal continue reading
