i went to bai du kao rou with a couple of friends for some steamboat dinner. we were walking around bugis but we could not decide what to have, we tried almost all the steamboat restaurants/ shops in bugis, namely chong qing, tian tian, xian de lai, so we decided to try bai du kao rou. the spread was not a lot but at least they served really fresh seafood and meat. just like all the other steamboats, you can choose two soup bases. i love their seafood, especially their flower crab, it was so fresh and sweet. really went well with the mala soup. continue reading

i had a gathering with my old school mates, it was such a long time since we met. They suggested we head to bugis for some steamboat cos they believe it meant reunion of friends similar to that of chinese new year. We got to choose two soup bases. Of course when you come to bai du kao rou, you must take their mala soup base. As one of our friends don’t take spicy, we ordered the normal pork soup base for her. The soup is very tasty, however the mala one is too spicy, do not attempt to drink it, it may burnt your stomach. their ingredients are like the normal steamboat dishes, but when you cook in either soup base, it taste really delicious! do try the mala soup base! continue reading

Bugis street area was famous for their steamboat. We chanced upon this Bai Du Kao Rou which has china nationals as the main customers. When we were there,we were the only Singaporeans in the restaurant. The buffet was $22 on that day as we went during a holiday. The stall assistant actually told us that on usual days it's about $18-$19. It may not be a very comfortable place to dine in as it was really noisy & smoky but we could see that everyone is enjoying themselves. Some stuff that I strongly recommend:Their crabs & prawns!AMUST!!Dont be surprise to see people using their own hand to pick up the steamboat ingredients(esp the crabs as it's finish really fast!)The place is not very hygenic. The crabs are their hottest steamboat ingredients. It's fresh & sweet. You can see from the photo that the crabs look fresh & pretty. They had their usual steamboat items. My boyfriend love the mantou. They had cooked items as well as non cooked items. They had fruits as dessert.I would go back again as it's really worth it for the price!Check out this place if you haven't gone there yet.One thing that they should improve is the hygiene of the place & also more tongs should be provided so that the customers wouldnt need to use their hands to grab the crabs in fear that they cant get it even though basically, they'll refill the crab after awhile. continue reading
