The Siglap branch of Thai Express is located on the ground floor of a low rise private apartment complex with 10+ parking lots (chargeable) for visitors along the compound's driveway. The restaurant's air conditioning is comparable to cineplex temperatures - welcomed on a sizzling hot afternoon but too chilly for the cloudy day we dropped by. We ordered 1 of the 3 promotional Sanook Sets (choice of tom yum soup, curry or stirfried dish) served with rice, appetizer and dessert, the massamun curry chicken with roti prata that was featured on the table display and the black pepper crayfish/slipper lobster with glass noodles. The Sanook Set was the best value at $8.90++. The tom yum soup had dory fish chunks, two shelled shrimps and several calamari rings. Taste was ok but nothing special. The 3 pcs of deepfried curry chicken balls were overcooked and tough. The sago and palm seed dessert was almost a reluctant inclusion, looked unappetizing and tasted bland with some sago beads hard and undercooked. The $12.90++ massamun curry which looked promising in the photo turned out to be the worst of the three items we had ordered. The prata was too oily and not evenly cooked (see photo) and seemed to have been reheated half heartedly in the microwave as it was not crispy at all. The curry was topped by a repulsive layer of oil.The black pepper crayfish glass noodles ($14.90++) looked unappetizing due to the cook's heavy handed use of black pepper sauce, was rather oily but tasted alright. The disappointing meal reinforced our impression that Thai Express has expanded too aggressively resulting in a sustained decline in the quality of its cooking. We didn't order any drinks (opting for water) or dessert and had change for our $50 note. continue reading

As usual, had thai / tom yum craving. So had to speed off to Thai express, for a quick lunch. I dont fancy thai express, i find the food expensive and not that great. Definitely not worth the money and there are many other much better and cheaper thai food outlets sprouting out everywhere. Then again, beggers cant be choosers, so since I had craving for thai, i had no choice but to skip here. So here is my plate of tom yum hor fun! Delicious! I think tom yum an hor fun is a good combination. Hope to see more thai outlets serving this combination. continue reading

Massaman curry was declared "World's Most Delicious Food" by CNN. So when I see this dish being served in Thai Express, I decided to give it a try. This is not quite commonly found in Thai Resturant locally. Most of the time, I only see green curry in the menu. The spice taste rather strong as compare to the green curry. The prata goes well with the curry and I think a bowl of rice might even suit better. I love their beef noodle soup. Not only I enjoyed the sweet tasting soup, I also like the tender beef slices. What a wonderful dinner. continue reading

Went there with colleagues for dinner. We ordered Tom Yam Soup, Mango Salad and Soft Shell Crab Noodle (not sure). I was pretty amazed by the flavor of their tom yam soup, spicy and sour. It tasted pretty great. Drinking tom yam while it's boiling hot was super shiok. The mango salad was a good starter. The smell and taste of the balsamic vinegar was not too overpowering. It sort of tickled our taste buds and was an appetizing appetizer. There were also sliced mangos which made the dish both colorful and complete. The soft shell crab was really good. I found this dish very nicely done. It was very fresh and juicy. It goes well with the noodle, the gravy also was the best I have tasted. Overall, the food was average. continue reading

being in the neighbourhood after the cafe cartel lunch earlier on; i didnt want to travel too far for dinner. the thai express outlet was just near the cafe cartel outlet, so i settled dinner there.the branch was pretty similar to the outlet at holland village- al fresco seating, very beach-side feel. ordered the pina colada and the phad thai; wasn't too bad, but the pina colada could have been more alcoholic-based, i guess.service was okok, could have improved in terms of attentiveness. continue reading
