Megumi is a small Japanese restaurant in the Siglap area. The Temaki Bento Set is my favourite there as the set comes complete with 3 Temaki handrolls (California, Soft Shell Crab, Cucumber), a generous portion of sashimi, salad, miso soup and Chawanmushi, for only 20.90. Another dish I like is their Chicken Hot Stone Bowl, which is somewhat similar to claypot rice only served in a hot stone bowl with chicken, chestnuts, ginko nuts and mushrooms. It is exceptionally flavorful. continue reading

I've been to Megumi many times as it is just outside my house. I must say, this place is crowded every night! Despite being crowded, service is quick and efficient. The salmon sashimi comes in 5 thick slices and are really fresh. (5 slices for $10)What I enjoy most at Megumi has got to be their fried rice. Any kind of fried rice they serve is awesome! If you're going for something simple, just order the Garlic Fried Rice ($7.80). I've had their big prawns fried rice and scallop fried rice as well. For a restaurant with such awesome food, it is really value for money. The price is comparable to Sushi Tei, Ichiban Boshi and many other Japanese restaurants, but the quality of food you get is definitely a notch higher. Driving here may be a bit of a hassle as they only have 7 parking lots in front of the restaurant, shared with next door Pasta Fresca. But, you won't regret making a trip down to Siglap for good Japanese food (: continue reading

My friend who stays in the East recommended this humble Japanese eatery to us.It is located along the stretch of restaurants and eateries at Siglap. They have another outlet which is located at Clementi for the west side folks. We started off with the sashimi platter. The sashimi didn't disappoint, they were fresh and nicely sliced, neither too thick nor too thin. The noodles of the Spicy Char Siew Ramen were springy and chewy, just the way I like my ramen to be. The soup broth was a tad on the spicier side than the usual spicy ramen I had elsewhere, not advisable for those who can't handle too much hot stuffs. The highlight of the dinner was the Scallop Fried Rice. i gave this dish an 'A'. The picture does not do justice to it. Fried to a golden yellow, we could smell the fragance of the rice which was delectably complemented with juicy scallops and chopped spring onions. A delightful surprise for our five senses. continue reading

Tucked between an Italian Restaurant and a Clinic, this simple and cozy Jap Restaurant serves excellent Japanese Food. The menu houses a wide spread from Sashimi to Ramen to Handrolls etc, including premium sashimi that is airflown from Japan. They have an alfresco and indoor air-conditioned dining area. I prefer the outdoor sitting as I wasn't comfortable with the noise level becos the restaurant is small and it's always full-house and very noisy indoors. In addition, I can bring my little maltese to this joint and have her sit on the chair while dinner takes place. The 1st time I went to Megumi, the fren who brought me there ordered the Big Prawn Fried Rice. I was taken aback by his choice as it didn't look more special than the fried rice you get at any Zhi Cha Stall BUT it was one of the best fried rice I have eaten. You can taste every individual grain that is fried with just the right sauces and the prawn used is very fresh. The UFO maki is a must try too. Some people find the pricing a little steep but good things don't come cheap ay! They don't have credit card discounts but from time to time, they do sell S$200 dollars vouchers at 20% discount i.e. pay only S$160! Pretty good deal for people who dine there often so keep a look out for that! continue reading
