It was the 2nd anniversary of my relationship with my gf. We decided to celebrate it by having a cuisine, which we never had it before: french cuisine. We chose this place as it is located at Rochester area, which was touted to be quiet and peaceful for couple dating. On that day, after our work has ended, we made our way towards the restaurant. It was not too far away from the Buona Vista mrt station, around 10-12mins way. Along the way, you will pass by Rochester Mall.Upon reaching the restaurant, it was indeed quiet and peaceful. Only 4-5 tables are taken up. As I have made a reservation beforehand, they have gave us a table at a quiet corner. Complimentary ice water was given tooThe menu has quite a good variety of dishes to choose from, from bites, starters, soup to main course and desserts. Wine is also available, if u are in the mood to drink. First dish is the Seared Scallop ($16.80). It is pan seared Hokkaido scallops, with tomato relish and crabmeat. The scallops were quite meaty. They were seared well, without being overcookedNext came the Nicoise Salad ($14.80). It is a garden salad, filled with boiled potatoes, hard boiled eggs, capsicum, fine beans, black olives, white anchovies, topped with seared smoked tuna with french dressing. The salad uses fresh leaves and toppings. Tuna is smoked well too . Portion is sufficient for the 2 of us to have some greens before we go onto our main courses. Next came our bowl of soup ($11.80). It is the French onion soup. We chose this, because this is a French restaurant. It should be their signature soup. It has a strong onion taste, which is quite overbearing for us. The serving size for the bowl of soup is quite small, since it is priced more than $10. I have expected a bigger size or some good ingredients inside it. For main course, I have ordered Tuna Steak ($25.80). It is a flame-kissed tuna, which comes with grilled vegetables, tomato and mango salad accompanied with balsamic vinaigrette. I am a big fan of Tuna. So naturally, I would choose this dish. It is a huge chunky piece of tuna, placed on the center of my plate. I guessed it should weigh around 300-400g. The tuna is fresh and cooked perfectly well. Side salad was prepared well, to add on to the taste of tuna. My gf ordered Seafood Paella Rice ($28.80). It is baked spanish bomba rice, accompanied with sauteed seafood. For this, we do not have high praises for it. The colour of the dish was too yellowish, which makes it look a curry rice. Taste was just average. We didn't finish up the rice too. For the service, I would not rate highly. It was quite hard to get the attention of the waitress at times. They would stand at a table, which was quite a distance from our table. Nevertheless, the service is still there. All in all, this restaurant is a good place for couple dating. It is away from the busy city of Singapore. Good for couples to chit chat softly, without raising the voices. continue reading

The moment I entered the restaurant, I loved it. It was converted from one of those old bungalow. The surrounding was quiet. Even though we sat at the Alfesco area, I didn't feel the heat of the noon day. There was a fun-filled indoor playhouse for little children. An hourly rate applies. It's really a good place for family with young children. The menu was simple, not much variety. I ordered a plate of Prawn Aglio Olio and a glass of cafe latte. This Aglio Olio was delicious, slightly oily, but that's quite normal for this dish. The latte was smooth and the aroma strong. My friend had a discount coupon and so I paid only $16 for this meal. Definitely worth it. continue reading

It has been awhile that I was able to steal a moment to have brunch with some friends on a weekday. It's my first time here and only to know that the weekday menu is lesser in varieties than the weekend menu. I ended up with a latte@$5, which was good and strong and also the Ploughman's lunch@$18 which came cheese, ham slices, bread and etc which actually can be shared by two persons. I learned how to savor on the pickled onions, branston pickles, the stronger in taste cheddar cheese and the light camembert cheese which was interesting. Enjoy the serene surroundings but better to bring a insect repellent if you are thinking of eating here in the open. continue reading

Lured by promise of a large playhouse and good food, our large party of 12 trooped down to check out the food and entertainment. The adults only had: 1) Men Roast - huge slab of beef that's thick and cooked beautifully! We asked for medium rare and the meat arrived exactly that. Pink in the middle and juicy. The vege on the side was done well too. Mash was great! 2) Ladies Roast - essentially Men Roast but slightly smaller. 3) Seafood Aglio Olio - One of my pal had this and he liked it. Fresh seafood and skillful cooking = awesome dish. Hubby said he'll definitely return to sink his teeth into the roast again. I can't agree more. continue reading

Family-friendly restaurants are hard to find in Singapore but Seb's Bistro has come up with a wonderful concept for harried parents needing some time off.Imagine an old coloniall Black-and-White bungalow done up into The Playhouse (as it is known) for children (up to 12) to be safely entertained and occupied for a fee, while parents enjoy a relaxing meal or have drinks with friends...Bliss...(sigh)The food here is nothing fantastic but it is tolerable though pricey. My husband had the Quail stuffed with Rice and Chestnuts and it was the most interesting item for lunch that day. The quail tasted gamey but it was well-roasted and the stuffing still moist. My oldest girl chose to have the Open-Face Smoked Salmon Sandwich with Guacamole and this was very well done with a generous portion of Salmon. There is a good selection of items on the Kid's Menu and for $15, they'll get a main dish, drink and a scoop of ice-cream.My 2 younger kids had the Macaroni Cheese (so-so) and the Cottage Pie with beef which fared better.I went for the Prawn Aglio Olio and the dish was a bit dry but the prawns were succulent. It would do better with a good douse of olive oil.Lastly, I finished off the meal with a Rhubarb Crumble with Vanila Ice-Cream (sorry, I forgot to take a picture as it was so yummy and I just dived right into it ). This was the most delicious lunch item. Rhubarb is hard to come by in Singapore but Seb's Bistro was generous in its serving. The crumble was fragrant with butter and well-toasted and the Rhubarb was just lightly sweetened and well-complemented by the vanila ice-cream Um-mmm.... continue reading
