Had tried both the nasi lemak and the signature mee siam from this Chinta Manis outlet at Changi Airport. To my surprise, the food here were really good! Personally I really like their mee siam, which the sweet and sour gravy is very tasty and also really appetizing. The orange bee hoon were smooth and portion was generous as well. Nasi lemak was not too bad, except the fish otak was abit too salty. But the coconut rice was fragrant and not soggy. The restaurant was also quite spacious and comfortable with friendly service provided by the staffs as well. continue reading

Landed on Changi Aiport Terminal 2 as i came back singapore from BKK trip. Kop Khun ka to all openricers Quite shock to have found a peranakan cafe outlet here when i was heading home. Since it has been weeks since i last tried Singapore food, buying a piece of kueh to eat seem very ideal. And here you see below is the kueh lapis. A type of traditional kueh which i have been eating since young.Dont belittle this kueh, behind it - the making process was a tough one, as it required lots of time and effort to make the thousand layers. Yum yum..... I would always eat it by section just like how i eat a ‘九层糕 (Jiu Cheng Gao)’I bought this kueh lapis at the cost of $1.90 not cheap i would say. But the food did match the value as it is not too oily and as i seperated the layers it was a smooth tear . Would like to try it again but not frequently. continue reading

We were sending a friend off to Austria in Terminal 2, so we decided to dine in Chinta Manis to try out some Nyonya dishes.Top: Nasi PeranakanBottom: Nasi Lemak*Both at less than 10 dollars per plate*1. Nasi Peranakan (Rated: 8/10)- was served with 'kunyit' rice, the rice smelled and tasted fragrant and good!- the chicken rendang was also nice, not as spicy as expected, love it!- comes with a coconut kueh as well, very unique and tasty- achar was appetizing - papadam was like the common ones outside- prawn sambal was one of the best I ever ate!!!- curry was provided 2. Nasi Lemak (Rated: 8/10)- rice was very fragrant with strong pandan smell- fish curry was a good try - egg sambal was my FAVOURITE, because I love EGGS!!! Hahaha!!- didn't eat their nuts because I'm allergic to them LOL- anchovies/ikan bilis was crispy, goes well with sambal WEEEE!!- otah was also great - achar was the same with the one served in Nasi Peranakan!Changi is too far for me. So I guess I'll only come back when I send somebody off? Or travel overseas? The next time I come, I'll order some kuehs to try because the kuehs there looks super good and appealing!!Price wise, it's quite okay for me. Not cheap but not that expensive either.Service was good. Environment was quite satisfying. The table was very small though :/ continue reading

This is the new cafe at T2 of Changi Airport outside the Arrival Hall. It has taken over the place that was formally occupied by Polar Cafe.Chinta Manis means “Sweet Love" in Malay. It serves Peranakan food, kuehs, sweet and savoury pastries. The place is decorated with simple marble table with Cyan colour chairs. It has colourful peranakan tiles and replica nyonya ware as decor. We ordered 4 different Platters to try from the Nyonya Delicacies Menu. The Nasi Peranakan Istimewa , Chicken Rendang Platter, Prawn Sambal Platter & Bibik Nyo's Ayam Klio (Coconut Curry Chicken) Platter. The house special is Nasi Peranakan Istimewa which consist of flavoured rice with a small bowl of soup. It has Chicken Rendang, Prawn Sambal, omelette, achar, coconut serunding, plain fish curry and a palm size prawn cracker. This is a value for money meal at $8.80 which also includes coffee/tea and kueh of the day. The prawn cracker was of the good Indonesian quality but it was starting to go soft. Maybe should keep in air-tight container before serving to customer. I would prefer Nasi Kunyit with this set instead of the biryani rice. The Achar was a bit sweet unlike the Nyonya spicy version. Coconut Serunding was moist . The prawn sambal was not too spicy and chicken rendang was tender and has a nice dry curry. All other platter comes with yummy Nasi Kunyit, Achar, Coconut Serunding and a bowl of curry. The other 3 platters does not come with drink but you can top-up $1 for the house special which includes Tamarind Lemongrass, Barley etc. The platter set taste quite good but I like the Nyonya Kueh best. As it is not too sweet and has all the right texture. For dessert, we ordered a packet of Ondeh Ondeh at $2.50 and 3 different choices to share. The kueh comes in bit size of about 1 inch square. It is of a good quality, better than those you get in the hawker centre. The Chendol Agar Agar has 2 layers, with the top layer of Gula Melaka jelly and the bottom layer of coconut milk jelly mixed with red bean and green worm. The texture is not too hard or soft and the sweetness is just right. Even the Ondeh Ondeh uses the good quality Gula Melaka. You can buy a box of assorted Nonya kueh at $20 a packet or individual at 90 cents each.Overall this is a nice cosy cafe with tasty food, simple decor and prices are reasonable as you can get breakfast set for less than $5 and lunch or dinner set at less than $10. Good place to grab a bit just before you fly as it is open early at 7.30am and close at 10.30pmIf I ever at the airport in the early morning, I would try their breakfast set or the Nyonya curry puff. For more detail check out their website : http://www.chintamanis.com.sg/ continue reading
