Popiah has been one of my favourite snacks ever since young. I like how the store owners always cut it into bite-sizes and the filling seems to hold really well even though the skin was very thin. I went to the well-known ABC brickworks which seems to have many many types of good food and decided to try the popiah to bring back some memories! I think i was a little too late as most stalls seem to have close/they don't work on that particular day. I like the filling of it, the turnip with peanuts and egg seems to hold really well inside. There were some crunchy sweet things inside too which was a little hard? I spat some out. Perhaps it was overcooked. The skin was a little tough to break apart, which wasn't suppose to be the case. I'm not very sure what is so special about this popiah. Maybe the name? Or maybe for its cheap price ($1.50), I'm not too sure. Nevertheless, I've already tried one of the famous popiah and I would love to try more! continue reading

This popiah costs $1.50. It was cut up into 5 "slices". I ordered the spicy one. While waiting for my order, I noticed that people before me all ordered more than 1 roll of popiah so this must be pretty good. However, it was a little disappointing as it was only alright. Like the other reviewer said, there needs to be more filling. The filling was also slightly crumbly and did not hold together. Skin was quite soft but a little dry. continue reading

I like popiah. Whenever there is popiah selling, I will try it. Though I would not travel all the way especially for a roll or two popiah just to satisfy my palate! “If” I don’t know what to eat at hawker centre, I will sure choose popiah. While I was browsing the hawker centre for some more food, this stall is only selling popiah, it seems they are specialise in this. Furthermore, they have no lack of patrons as people keeps coming to order. Quickly browse their ingredients: crumble peanuts, hardboiled egg, crab stick, bean sprout, lettuce, stress that no pork is in use. No complain on their ingredients as what we pay is what we are getting. Rather I would look for their sauces, would it be better than other stall? I ordered 2 rolls without chilli, first bite….oh! the popiah skin is too dry, means expose in the air too long! Taste, their sweet sauce isn’t outstanding, it has only a tint of sweetness. They didn’t put raw garlic. Overall tastes was from the boiled turnip~savoury. No return on this popiah, it hasn’t passed the basic standard for my like. continue reading
