Istimewa is located near my house and almost each time I walk past, whether it's at 8am or during lunch time, there's a pretty long queue. I've had their lontong and beef rendang before, which was only ok to me, but the spices they use to cook the food is really fragrant. That's the thing I like about them. This time, I had the chicken, brinjal and bergadil. As usual, they gave loads of rice - really really huge portion! The brinjal was nice and soft without being mushy. The bergadil was ok, overall was quite soft. The chicken was also average. The food is decent in general but I'm not sure why people would travel all the way here for their food.. continue reading

By far the best Nasi Padang I've tried. a treat from my friend to this small coffeeshop tuck just right beside the main road. We had their signature fried chicken, beef rendang, curry veggjes. one of the star is definitely their sambal chili. it is damb good! spicy and sour yet very light. the chicken is marinated well and the beef rendang is very tender. the queue is crazily long during lunch hour and the coffee shop is packed with majority of their diners! continue reading

The endless long queues are testimony of this little Nasi Padang stall's popularity.During the whole duration of my lunch, the line just kept getting longer and longer.Apparently, the queue starts to form at 10.30am until food eventually runs out. It's also, from what I heard, a favourite haunt of taxi drivers.I ordered beef rendang, lady's finger, and a begedil (fried potato patty). Do ask for gravy and their chilli because the aunty will douse your entire plate with the curry and the chilli is painfully hot but good! In fact, all the dishes were spicy, but not so tongue-numbing that you couldn't taste anything. Great value too at $3.70 for my plate piled high with food. It's definitely not difficult to see (and taste) why this place, although a little out of the way, is so popular. Will be going back to try more dishes! continue reading
