I’d only discovered the existence of dry ban mian about a year ago and I bum at the fact that it’s an uncommon find in most hawker centres and coffee shops. He Jia Huan Ban Mian sells a mean bowl with springy noodles, bagging chews that just hits the spot. The magical pool of gravy sits at the bottom of the bowl, so do remember to stir it up real good. Word of caution: Do not wear white whilst devouring this amazing load of ban mian. And if you do, be careful not to get any gravy splattered on your shirt like paint on a blank canvas. Also, the gravy can get a tad spicy so be warned! The gravy is quite the savoury delight, hitting salty, sweet and spicy notes all at the same time. Your tastebuds will be in for the ride and will probably thank you for that dinner. continue reading

FoodOrdered the $3 you mee (handmade noodles). Soup tastes delicious. Ingredients consists of eggs and sufficient minced pork meat and vegetables. Not too bad a meal to have for dinner.ServiceSomeone will take the order outside the stall and indicate their "secret codes" by indicating with pegs on the bowl so that the cook will know what to do next.AmbienceLocated in a crowded coffee shop. Since this shop is quite famous for its Ban Mee in Jurong West, there is always a long queue.Price$3 is average market rate for a bowl of ban mee. Not the best but still consider very good in the district. Recommendation / TipsThere are many types of Ban Mee available. They even offer the dried version. It should be good and I will give it a try the next round. continue reading

Tried this ban mian upon recommendation by a friend. Boy, it was the mother of all ban mians around! The uncle who was cooking it was so efficient! Cooking up to 4 bowls at one go! The main attraction of this store is the ban mian, so they sell ban mian just with different kinds of mian to choose from (you mian, mee hoon kway, and a few others). I think they also had dumplings too. The ban mian was chewy and springy at the same time! Think it was probably homemade. Soup was so nice!!!! it had this distinctive taste which i can't put my hands on. Felt like it was cooked with charcoal or some special ingredient. No MSG, sweet and simple soup. It has this very homely feeling, like it was cooked with love and some magic potion. The anchovies were fried till it was very crispy; i also like it when it soaked up the soap and was less crispy. Uncle also gave a lot of veggies upon request. NOTE: I was told that the chilli is quite spicy and yup! it is indeed very spicy! so if you're a daredevil, please request for more! This store has been around for over 20 years and it's still going strong! Proves how awesome the ban mian is! Head on down to try it! You won't regret it! continue reading
