For more reviews, visit www.umakemehungry.comWhile in Teck Whye for dinner, we had chanced upon Jin Bao Claypot Bak Kut Teh. This stall was kind of popular among the crowd in Teck Whye Coffeeshop. Staff on duty were dressed in yellow top, a uniform to identify themselves from the stall. The claypot of Bak Kut Teh was rather standard without too much taste of herb. Instead I find the taste was rather similar to those premix that we can easily get off from the shelves. Color of the "Teh" was in between the clear and the black version, opaque perhaps. Besides the "Bak Kut" (Meat and ribs), slices of button mushrooms were included and cut spring onions garnishing were sprinkled among them.Meat was tender, easily detached from the bone and had a slightly infused taste from the Bak Kut Teh. However, I'm someone who prefer a stronger sense of such taste.Overall, I would say that the claypot BKT was quite decent and if you have not much expectation other than just to fill one's stomach, this should be enough. continue reading

This place is generally filled with the residents living nearby the area. There is rather straight-forward service here - order and pay up. There might be a bit attitude problem. We ordered a bak kut teh soup. Despite this stall being famous, the fried youtiao was stale but I guess okay as it's meant to be thrown into the bak kut teh soup. Overall it was alright, your usual flavours, though I've had better. At least the uncle gave me extra soup when I requested. continue reading

I've never come across a Bak Kut Teh place that don't serve extra soup. I have now at this place. And they are almost bothering on dishonesty in my view. Not only that, they are unapologetic about it when I asked. They said its written on the signboard and I should 张大眼睛看。 Ok, so I did not ... and my chinese is bad. But I've sincerely never had a case like this Singapore eating Bak Kut Teh all 40 years of living memory hence I came as a shock and displeasure. Then, when they came and told me the bill, my girlfriend and I heard $11, very clearly. I gave $12. The lady staff came back with $0.50 change. I didnt realise until a min later and when I went over to ask, she changed tack to say it was $11.50. The extra $0.50 came from a small veg which she overlooked. I said I have no issues with $0.50 but that she obviously said $11, and she had the cheek to tell me that its ok and that I don't understand. Now its my fault?! It borders on dishonesty in my books. Advice is not to go to such a place, not matter how much one likes the food. continue reading

My dad drove the family to teck whye for dinner. we have been craving for the claypot rice there for a pretty long time. The claypot rice here is indeed delicious. Each claypot cost $6.50. the rice is very fragrant, you can smell a tinge of sesame oil taste. It is not too oily as well. the chicken is very tasty and tender. The salted fish is pretty large piece but when you eat with the rice, it is not too salty. we also ordered their vegetable, it only cost $3. The gravy is also not too salty. as a whole it was a delicious meal. continue reading

I have been going round Singapore hunting for good claypot chicken rice. I have tried the best one in Hong Kong and trying to look for one with equal standard in Singapore. I was with my partner for late dinner here. We tried their claypot chicken rice for the first time. It was cooked upon order so a short waiting time is expected. I was first greeted by the aroma. I mixed it with the desired amount of black sauce and oil then started to eat. The taste was not disappointing though not the best that i eaten. continue reading
