I don't know if it's a case of desperate-for-customers or what, but the woman who served us jumped to the conclusion that we're students and ushered us in telling us that we can get the Student Deals. It was dinner time but the restaurant was far from crowded. Quite a feat for a restaurant located at the basement of Tampines 1 which was facing the exit/entrance of the Tampines MRT Station.Chicken Stew with Olive Rice. $8.As you can see from the photo, it is ugly. My honest first impression. However, the taste was okay. The chicken is not very tender but it's chewable. The stew is not spicy, not too salty, but also very bland. The rice is good because it's very fragrant and smooth. So it makes up for the not-so-good stew.I think I will never visit BBQ Chicken anymore, thank you very much. continue reading

There was a popular Korean western food restaurant at Tampines One.When I was window shopping there, my friend and I went in to this BBQ Chicken restaurant to have a try. The service was prompt and food came in a short while after ordering.Since it was a Korean restaurant, I had decided to order a Korean flavoured chicken in the menu, Korean Traditional Charboiled with Olive Rice. The chicken meat had heavy grilled aroma, upon tasting the chicken, it was more of burnt than grilled taste on the skin. The meat was tender and juicy with some herb marinate but the burnt taste covered most of the marinate taste. The olive rice was disappointing. It did not use Korean pearl rice, instead uses white rice which was soft and lumped together. Overall, the food taste average and was a little disappointed that the chicken meat was grilled until burnt. continue reading

BBQ Chicken markets itself as using the finest ingredients and 100% extra virgin olive oil to fry the chickens. As their specialty is chicken, as suggested by their shop name, I ordered the Black Pepper Chicken Steak set meal, which consists of grilled marinated chicken thigh with black pepper sauce. The meal came with a choice of two sides, I chose fries and coleslaw. I find that the food was just satisfactory. continue reading

Before I start having my main course in this restaurant, I was quite upset with their basic soup of the day and soft drink. Their cream of mushroom soup was quite diluted and you can totally feel that they are just using can soup to make it instead of their chef using their own recipe to cook it. Their coke is also quite gasless which make the soft drink tastes abit funny and unusual as well. Was not a pleasant visit for me. continue reading
