Wanted to grab a quick snack on the way home and I happened to pass by Tori Q, a kiosk selling a range of Yakitori, or grilled skewered meat. Other than the standard skewered meat from chicken or pork, there are also others like Quail Eggs ($1.20), Deep Fried Prawn ($1.20), Chicken Karaage ($1.40) and Arabiki (Pork) Sausage ($1.60).I got the Chicken Yakitori, Chicken Balls and Mini Hashed Potato to try.Chicken ($1.10) - LeftMade from chicken thigh, the meat is quite tender although I find the sauce to be a tad mild tasting. It is also not very sweet, and I'd have personally like it to be slightly more sweeter for more flavour. Chicken Balls ($1.50) - RightAlso known as tsukune, these chicken balls are made from healthy minced meat with vegetables. The meat is very, very tender and the best part is the charred portion on the exterior which has a slight smoky flavour to it which I adore! Mini Hashed Potato ($0.80)Basically four mini hash brown balls on a stick, these little hash brown are quite crispy with a lingering aroma from the oil. You can actually get a bag of this from supermarkets for more value and fry it yourself, but for the sake of convenience, this is good to have for eating on the go. Out of the three, I like the Chicken Balls best, and the Hashed Potato second. Their grilled meat are quite tender and I'd recommend getting the meatballs! These yakitori are great for a snack and prices are quite reasonable too, although it can add up to quite a bit if you are buying more to fill the tummy. If you want a more filling meal, they also have bento sets with rice which you can consider getting to takeaway instead. continue reading

How time flies. If I recalled correctly its about three years when I last ordered from Tori Q.My favourite Yakitori is the Pork with Asaparagus. Still as good as before. Priced at S$2.20 per stick. The pork Yakitori was tough overcooked. Priced at S$1.20.The chicken Yakitori still the same tender pieces of chicken. Priced at S$1.10.For additional rice I paid 90 cents with a generous serving of seaweeds.I added my own Japanese daikon to complete this lunch meal. continue reading

Takeaway dinner at Tori-Q. Was glad to find that there's no queue at Tori-Q Tampines Mall Basement. Normally there will be queue, especially during lunchtime and dinnertime. Ordered their rice, without pickles. With 2 sticks of Meatball and 2 sticks of Chicken. ($6.10).Their rice is a must-order, its kind of sticky, like Japanese Rice, accompanied with pickles and seaweed. With the sauce for the chicken meatball and chicken stick, it makes it exceptionally delicious! The chicken meatball is one of my favourite on the menu. For a stick of 3, its priced at $1.50. The chicken meatball is nicely grilled, with the sauce its really heavenly. As for the chicken stick, its grilled to a little burnt, to make the taste of the chicken much crispier. Worth a try for those who have not yet tried before! continue reading

I remember Tori Q was quite a craze during my secondary school days and I would always ask my mom to buy that for my dinner! Even till today, Tori Q still attracts a decent crowd! Besides the individual Yakitori sticks, they also offer 3 different bento sets. I bought Bento B which consist of 2-chickens, 1 chicken ball and 1 chicken with green pepper stick. Each bento set is served with Japanese rice, pickles, seaweed and their special "Tare" (Sauce). Overall, a satisfying delicious dinner! continue reading

After shopping with friends, we decided to take Tori Q for dinner. I bought Unagi, it was fresh taste and have some sweetness within it. The unagi also have melt-in-your-mouth texture with an excellent and balanced sauce which is neither too sweet nor too salty, is very much like homemade sauce. However, the portion was a that too small. It only have enough portion to sink my teeth. To me, I think it a little bit expensive. continue reading
