It was by sheer coincidence that we spotted Sunset Grill & Bar (which we thought had closed down after a futile search at its former Seletar Air Base location). The husband had been yearning for their spicy wings ever since our first visit almost 4 years back and we were glad we finally found them!Chicken Wings ($20)At $20 for 6 wings, it is definitely not pocket friendly! However, the magic lies in the sauce (with varying degree of spiciness)! The sauce base is tangy with a hint of sourness. Depending on the spiciness level ordered, the taste ranges from mild (level 1) to just nice (level 2) to stinging (level 3) to numbing (level 4). The wing itself is pretty average though.Striploin Steak ($28.80)The steak was grilled to perfection (though we thought the portion could have been more generous) with a hint of charred fragrance. As for the sides, the vegetables exuded a strong buttery aftertaste. Overall, this would be a place to occasionally visit to satisfy our craving for spicy wings! Other than that, it's not really worth the price tag and not to mention the accessibility of this location! continue reading

I’ve heard much stories about this spicy food challenge among my friends at Jalan Kayu’s famous sunset grill pub for its buffalo wings and decided to go check it out with my hubby and friends. As we were planning to go for movie after that, we didn’t eat anything of too “high level” because I didn’t want to watch the movie from the toilet cubicle. We ordered a noob level 2 and 3, and postponed the tongue and bowel removal surgery challenge for another day.The buffalo wings were very crispy , it looks terribly burned, but it was fine and probably just the colour of the batter and for those with “higher levels” would have a colour of dark red a.k.a Hell coating. It was also flavourful and tender on the inside and if it weren’t for its ulu location (from where I live) I would come here really often and have my hubby take up the challenge since he eats wasabi like green tea ice cream. continue reading

So I heard about the chicken wings challenged and wanted to challenge it. but after hearing how comfortable the spiciness in the chicken wings will make u feel, I decided to drop off the idea of challenging the level 30 as I didn't want to spend money to make my stomach and mouth on firm so instead of level 30, I ordered a mild level 3 which is good enough for me to really taste the meat on the wings. well I guess this place is only fun when on and off there's people coming in to challenge the spiciness of the wings and not really into taste. the chicken wings tasted pretty normal though. There's also other food items on the menu (not just chicken wing) too. continue reading

It was my first time at Sunset Grill and Bar. It is situated at Jalan Kayu, the famous place for prata. Well, heard from my friends about this place and we wanted to try the ever famous spicy chicken wings so here we are. We ordered some food for sharing, a large garden green salad, some mussels, fish and chips, lasagna and the chicken wings. Salad and lasagna was not bad but I really love the mussels, especially the sauce. I even dipped the fries with the sauce, I think is some white wine creamy spice sauce, not really sure what it is but it sure was good. We ordered drinks such as milk and lime juice to be prepared. After discussing the group came into a consensus of ordering the level 35 chicken wings. That’s the spiciest level. We ordered a dozen and each took one chicken wing each. It was the spiciest thing I have ever eaten. The spiciness lingered around in the mouth for a good 10 minutes and I felt that I was on flames and my ears were oozing out smoke. I don’t think I ever ate this kind of chili before locally. However, the challenge was fun, service was good too, I felt that they were a bit short handed due to the crowd but the only waiter guy was really patient and attentive. You will receive a certificate after and this place is definitely good to come with a bunch of friends to chill. continue reading

Heard about many stories about the spicy buffalo wings and decided to challenge it. Buffalo Wings - Level 30!6 medium size chicken wings covered with a thick layer of Chilli sauce, served together with sour cream , carrot and celery sticks ( which the waiter told me that it can help to ease the uneasiness from spiciness) . It was really spicy. It actually numbs the whole of your mouth after a few bites ,you cant really taste what you are eating. Rather than saying it is a delicacy, it is more like a challenge cause by finishing the wings, you get yourself a certificate from the restaurant! continue reading
