They have since shifted from their little india location to the St James area, nested within St James Wine Bar & Bistro. It may be a little confusing for diners now as no signage can be seen. The place was pretty empty when we reached at 815pm. The place is a little dark as its more pub style inside but there were large screen tv screening soccer. There is live band on certain days apparently. The usual nostalgic decorations of antique items are still around. On top of that, there seems to be a steamboat option now, available from 6pm onward from Mon to Sat, and on Sun from 1pm onward. Anyway we gladly took a seat near it. Ordered the signature chix curry and tom yum spaghetti seafood. Both the signature dish standard did not disappoint. Though i wish the portion to be a little more. The bread went well with the curry gravy which is thick and flavorful. The pasta was on the spicy side and feels like dry version of a laksa. The bill adds up to be $43.20. continue reading

For full review, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2013/03/steam-sia.htmlSteam Sia is a place where children born in the late 19's still can have remembrance of their childhood. As part of their decor, they have old nokia phones, which are known to be as durable as hammer, snakes n ladder board games, old ceramic bowls and plates, rotary phone, and also a hopscotch drawn, etc! Seems very Singapore style cafe, but they do serve western food too.Ordered raisin float for only $5.90, which I liked a lot. Sweet, and have my favorite rum & raisins!Seafood Stuffed Sailing Boat $8.90. Don't really see much seafood in it, except for prawns?? Something like baked potato with prawn as topping, some bits of mushrooms. Tasted ok, though you can grew sick of eating it. Nonya Assam Prawn with Pineapple $8.90. Their prawns and big, but not as crunchy as I wanted it to be. Assam sauce is not too sour, just nice for me Neither is it too spicy Steam Sia Nonya Curry Chicken $12.90. They also have it for serving 2 pax at a price of $20.90. Curry looks spicy, but it is ok. For average-spicy takers, this should not be a problem. They have tomatoes in the curry, thus, I think this emits a little sweetness to the curry, lowering the spiciness in some way. Their bread is soft to pull apart and chew, making my meal less energy intensive! They also have 3 corners which I think are quite cosy, more to having a little more private space. Do read my blog for the illustrations! continue reading

Steam Sia has this very Old School feeling with the interior and decor. They have displays like the Kacang Puteh stall, Lomo cameras, old typewriters and even some old Nokia phones. I can relate to it as I was born in the 80s. So far, this is still my first time attending a theme restaurant. The restaurant actually serves fusion food from local to western dishes so you will be spolit for choice. Pricing wise is also reasonable as most dishes are less than 10 bucks. I particularly like the salmon and the curry chicken. The curry chicken actually came with an old cooking pot with which was very interesting. The food generally is quite nice and the place is definitely good for catching up with friends. I will definitely pop by again if I have the chance. continue reading

I was recommended by a friend to check out the food at Steam Sia and I gotta say it's a worthwhile visit. Firstly, you gotta love the retro 80's feel of the decoration. Makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. The place is a little small but that adds to the "kampong" cozy feel of it. I tried a couple of dishes that night. Firstly was their signature Nonya Curry Chicken dish. The curry was thick and savory. It had a lovely bite of heat balanced with sweetness and was absolutely sumptuous when sopped up with the thick crusty bread. My mouth is drooling just thinking of it. The chicken meat was tender and practically falling off the bone. I also love their presentation using the pot. The portion was on the small side, but that just gives us more room to order more. Next item I tried was the Poached Salmon with Fruit Salsa. The warm salmon was salty and cooked just about right, and when paired with the sweet fruit salsa, it was a flavor party in my mouth. It was a nice twist to what could be a plain ol' salmon. Love the nostalgic items on display. Especially the recorder! Brings me back to my school days. If you're around the neighborhood, do pop by Steam Sia for a bite. Enjoy the good food with a cold pint, and have some fun Instagram moments. continue reading
