The crowd at The Old Malaya Café is specially long during lunch hours.Having tasted the popiah during my last trip, I decided to order a bowl of Chicken Macaroni Soup.Definitely it was a good choice. The soup light and refreshing with generous amount of big pieces of chicken meat. The chicken was cooked just right and the taste succulent.Thumbs Up for this soup! continue reading

If you dining in at peak hour at tampines mall where food court and restaurant are almost fully packed you can go down at B1 The old Malaya Cafe to dine in at their economic food. We ordered a Pontian Wanton Noodle which has a QQ texture and served in dark black sauce and chilli sauc It comes with both fried and boiled wanton where both taste delicious and Penang Assam Laksa taste is quite good and a bit sour with thick bee hoon and mint and Prawn Paste. continue reading

Try to avoid their drinks as it may be overpriced, replace their drinks with chendol instead. Avoid peak hours as mostly residents and office workers will flock to this cafe during lunch period. Their popiah and penang laksa is a must to try. Great furninishing bringing back the nostalgic feelings from the past. I met up with my ex-colleague for dinner after work on one of the weekdays. She recommended this place as the café serves local delightful cuisine. The café provides varieties of Malaya nostalgia foods. The café was furnished with the nostalgia classic retro feeling and made the place has the olden days ambience.Although it is a café, we have to queue up at the counter to place our order and make payment on the stop. It’s a self-service café basically. So, I ordered Pontian Wanton Mee (S) @ S$7.00. I personally find that the price is expensive for a bowl of noodle. The noodles texture is QQ where there is bouncy and tender taste. As for the deep fried wantons, it looks flat and no much filling. I can barely fill of having wanton instead of just eating the wanton skin only. Char siew tasted a bit bland too. Truckers’ Chendol @S$2.50 is my choice of drink. It is served in a glass and filled with lots of gula Melaka, read beans, coconut milk and shaved ice. It is sweet and suitable for those who love sweet stuffs. I enjoyed the chendol with the generous ingredients filling up the glass at the price paid. All price does not include 7% GST. The serving time was fast too. If you are craving for local delightful foods, you might want to consider this café. The price is slightly expensive compared to other local stalls but then you are having your foods in an air-conditioned furnished place. That does explain the differences. continue reading

This stall sells many of our local food favourites and it is usually very crowded. It can be quite difficult to get seats during peak period. The iced lemon tea was refreshing, not too sweet or bitter. My bowl of prawn noodles was tasty and they served a reasonable amount of ingredients. The prawns were juicy! However, I would have enjoyed it more if it was less oily. I felt like oil was covering my whole lips after the meal though. I tried a bit of the Ipoh Hor Fun and the sauce is thick and overall yummy! I would like to try their famous chicken rice balls next time! continue reading
