We came to this place to try the signature soup bun by getting group buying coupon. The decor is unique from outside using the steam bun containers..particularly like the seats near the window, although the view is just condo..service is pro but i find a little too pushy la when recommending dishesfried noodles: not bad, but abit priceyfried rice: so-so, too expensive for the tastesalted egg veg: decent but not spectacularprawn steam buns: ingredients are fresh but the taste also nothing to wow aboutbig soup steam bun: to our disappointment, it was just an interesting display. the soup is just simple 'meat' soup. continue reading

We like it's decoration but food was kind of average. The fried rice was supposed to be one of the best sellers in Nanxiang but we were so disappointed. It came merely less than 5 mins after we placed order and it was lukewarm! It seemed that it was prepared for quite some time and being placed in a rice cooker to keep warm @_@Shanghai dumplings were so-so.Dessert - Glutinous rice ball in sweet wine was special but not enough to compensate the disappointment. The king sized crab roe steamed soup bun was slightly overwhelmed for us. It's smaller version with pork suited us better. continue reading

I like the food here. You have relatively simple fare from Shanghai but modified to suit Singaporean's palate. For example, you will notice that the xiao long bao skin is quite thin just like Ding Tai Feng, and also it's not as salty. I have been to Shanghai before and the baos there are thicker in skin texture and saltier. But you also get mains like Drunken Chicken, Jelly fish with vinegar, crab with egg flower, and the soup is really good. I have chicken soup and also the sweet and sour soup. Both did not disappoint. However, there was once I ordered the wrong item and I requested for a change. Initially they were quite reluctant to do so but they did eventually as the manager intervene. So I have the chance to try the Shanghainese vegetable rice, and spicy rice. What's unusual about the spicy rice is that they sprinkle some chili tapoica flakes on top of the rice, which gives it a sweet and crunchy texture.I like it here, highly recommended for a simple meal in a rainy day. continue reading
