I was craving a good burger and the wife happened to be on leave so we headed down to Suprette for lunch one weekday afternoon. Our last visit there (http://www.timelessfacade.com/2015/05/suprette-awesome-burger-in-heritage.html) was absolutely delicious so it was the natural choice for a burger fix.Chunky Chicken Chowder - This was part of the set lunch that the wife had and it came across as creamy but a wee bit too salty. However the chicken chunks were plentiful which was rather unexpected.Chipotle Chicken Sandwich - I had a bite of the chipotle chicken sandwich and it proved to be very decent; a tad creamy with a tinge of spiciness and sandwiched between two crisp bread halves. Served with shoe string fries and salad - all for $15 nett inclusive of a soup and a drink. A pretty decent deal if you ask me.Suprette Burger - And my sole reason for coming to Suprette, the namesake Suprette Burger ($20 for lunch, $25 for dinner), topped with bacon (+$3) and mushrooms (+$3). The hand chopped patty was done to medium well even though I had requested for medium rare but still came across as flavourful and juicy with bits of fat for texture. Add plentiful mushrooms, crisp bacon strips, a layer of gruyere cheese and two wonderfully buttery and crisp buns for the ultimate enjoyment. Oh and let's not forget the mountain of crisp shoestring fries (free flow if you visit during dinner but a single serving is more than enough for me).Lunch cost the both of us to the tune of $42.54, which was well worth the money in my humble opinion. A pity there is no option to have the burger as part of the set lunch (even with a top up) but in itself, the set lunch does represent decent value for money. But the draw (to me at least) is still undeniably the burger.See all my pictures at http://www.timelessfacade.com/2015/09/suprette-ii-still-my-favourite-burger.html continue reading

Located along the eclectic Jalan Besar is Suprette, a modern hipster bar cafe that marries a wide array of American-inspired mains and drinks in Kam Leng Hotel. This bar cafe is on the intimate side as the vicinity allows to accommodate slightly over twenty guests.Check out Suprette's set lunch which is priced at $15 and comes with soup, main and drinks! Awesome deal!Pumpkin soup as starters, which was Suprette's soup of the day. Creamy and lightly flavoured.I had the Steak Sandwich. Each mouthful was bursting with flavour from the thinly sliced beef (medium well) accompanied with sweetness from caramalized onions.Chickpea Burger ($17) for the lady. It is a herb and vegetable flecked burger and Suprette decks it with Tahani dressing. Majority of its flavour seems to be from potato and beetroot.Rounding up my meal was a cuppa. Lightly bodied with no distinct flavour, nonetheless, it was decent for an afternoon drink.More pics and thoughts at http://lepakwithyaops.com/suprette-hipster-nostalgic-hipster-bar-at-kam-leng-hotel continue reading

I took a short walk back to Suprette Restaurant, Bar, Cafe located at the vintage-Chinese preserved back-in-time looking Kam Leng Hotel. Everything about this hotel was so ... old-fashioned and stagnant in time, fashionably dated - from the corridors to the interior. It is a small restaurant / bar / cafe catering to breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks crowds, prising itself on being "compact" and serving comfort food. The service crew is very amicable and helpful, so we took up their recommendation of The Suprette Burger (SGD$20.00) - beef patty, gruyere cheese and fries. It was a huge burger, looking even more tantalizing next to the bed of golden crispy fries nestled next to it. Our efforts to ignore the bread were futile, because it was sweet (buttered), toasted crispy and came with lots of aromatic-tasting sesame seeds. The patty itself was great tasting especialy with the melted cheese upon it; and being succulent and juicy added points to it. Not bad, really, a rather pure taste although it doesnt has the charred / smokey flavor I prefer; and I am thankful its sweet flavor is not obliterated by heavy garnishings of garlic, pepper or onions.I had a Mocha (SGD$5.00) to go along with the meal. No sugar was needed - the thick layer of chocolate sauce at the bottom sweetened the bittersweet, nutty and slightly citrusy coffee and gave it the perfect touch already. I did not even regret that they did not have soy milk today ( my original request), since the original tasted great on its own.For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/08/lunch-at-suprette-restaurant-bar-cafe.html continue reading

Nestled around the vicinity of Little India, this cafe occupies the ground floor of Kam Leng Hotel. The cafe itself is quite small, but cosy, with a bar at one of the corners. They have different menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ordered Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich, Poached Eggs with Spinach and Potato Cakes, and the Suprette Burger. My first impression was that the portion was huge! The Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich filling was very fulfilling and tasty. The french fries was perfectly fried and not too salty. The Poached Eggs with Spinach and Potato Cakes was mediocre, nothing special about it. It was served with slices of toast and bacon streaks. Again the portion for this Suprette Burger was huge. The patty was fresh and juicy, combined with the melted cheese, making it the perfect burger. continue reading

Ordered the pork chop, they placed a tracing paper beneath the food and I tink I ate some of the paper when I cut my meat and when the paper became soggy.. My hubby ordered the pork sliders, not so good as it was dry.Cappuccino was not hot when served, and was expecting some design on the milk foam since it was Christmas but nah..Overall small little cafe in a nostalgic hotel.. Explore kam leng hotel.. Retro find in a city.. continue reading
