Groupon had a pretty good deal partnering Soup restaurant, so here I am equipped with my vouchers, ready for the famous Samsui Chicken! Ahh I love this place's chicken! Eating steam chicken wrapped with lettuce and ginger sauce has inspired my mum to make her own ginger sauce and now we eat our chicken at home wrapped in lettuce too! Anyway this is certainly the star of soup restaurant, not the soup. The sweet potato leaves are also pretty good!Soup was normal continue reading

City Square Mall isn't a ghost town, but it's not that crowded either on a weekend. So if your family is like mine who loves to go for a peaceful ambience AND great food, welcome to Soup Restaurant in City Square! We had a all-time must-try favourite, Samsui Chicken in garlic sauce... topped with free cabbage where you can wrap your chicken in it. Absolutely Delicious! Most of the times I contemplate asking the restaurant if they could simply peel off the fats off the chicken so that the flavor is on the meat itself (I don't eat the fats/skin unless it is roasted!). The chicken is tender to chew and it doesn't taste artificial like other restaurants (especially fast-food ones). I wonder if it's a kampong chicken, you must order this dish if you are visiting the restaurant. We also had a Poached Baby spinach with conpoy in century & salted egg stock! I'm not a fan of spinach nor vegetables, but this IS THE*** dish to order! It does not taste like your ordinary vegetables which makes you pinch your nose (I am sensitive to smell) to eat it! I guess it's because the gravy has sank into the vegetables. I love the sanyu (fish) because its' boneless and when I mean boneless, you can rest assure and be secure on that. Some restaurants I visited, they claim their fish to be boneless but you can still find tiny bones in it! Anyway the sauce goes really well with the white fish, there's absolutely no fishy smell. Thumbs up! Well, this tofu has some great skin and soft tender white tofu in it. I felt that they could add extra flavor like stuffing corn or some goodies inside the tofu so that it'll not be so ordinary. Upon trying the other dishes with great sauces, this tofu seemed rather ordinary to me. My brother would beg to differ though! He's a fan of plain pure tofu so if you love the ordinary, get this dish.I'm always disappointed when the soup of the day is Wintermelon soup (The other is lotus root soup!). It's almost like as if they'd put sugar into the soup.. i'm not too sure if it's authentic or genuine, but the ingredients are quite little and the soup isn't enough for 4 people. Scoops down! Isn't this supposed to be a Soup Restaurant? I strongly believe there is sooo much potential in their soup area, i'm a fanatic of soup so I wouldn't mind paying more if they've got some delicious soup eh. (Healthy ones please).Last but not least, the chrysanthemum flower is so FRESH, literally all of our cups are filled with the aroma of the flower which really opens our appetite! Most of our flowers are floating in the cup (except my dad's one). I tried using a chopstick to get mine to sink but to no avail.DO YOU KNOW? Flowers that float are really really fresh because the water does not seep into the air pacs in the flowers yet. I'm not too sure if this is scientifically proven, leave a comment if you think that is so too! (Yeah yeah it's my own theory *grins*)CHEERS to Soup Restaurant! (Probably should change name to Samsui Chicken Restaurant, very misleading name if your specialty is not in soup!) continue reading

Been wanting to try this restaurant as i heard many positive comments on the Samsui Ginger Chicken. True enough, it didnt disappoint me! Meant to serve cold, the white chicken dipped with the ginger sauce tasted like heaven! Perfect match!! The boneless chicken make it a plus point! I ordered the Double Boiled Waisan & Ginseng Roots with Chicken Soup to relieve stress. The flavourful soup proves that many efforts and time is used to boiled the soup. I cant finish the soup as the ginseng taste is too strong- I dont really like ginseng. But i believe many will agree with me that the soup tasted good. Only negative point is that the bits of chickens in the soup is too hard. Not very pleasant to chew on it too.The claypot tofu is a must-try for tofu lover like me! Tofu were so soft and the gravy is thick and nice, though i dont exactly know what contains inside the gravy. haha! But i really love the tofu a lot and am surprised why is it not included under popular dishes in their website. We ordered their fried shrimp too! Quite nice with a tinge of sweetness, crispy and chewy too! (:I love love love the chicken and claypot tofu and would definitely go back again! continue reading
