As we are in the area, we decide to stop here for lunch. The place is not crowded. Wet tissue, Dough Fritter and cutlery are placed on the table as we sit at the table. The place is like a coffee shop, with its open air concept. Best find a place under the fan as it can be quite hot.Menu is a simple one big page with pictures but no prices on it.Bak Kut Teh (small)We are a bit disappointed as the soup is quite light and lacking of herbal taste and body too. For small serving, there is 3 pieces of ribs in it. I also feel that the meat is not tender enough.Braised Pig's IntestineThe intestine is quite well braised and tender.GroundnutsAlthough the groundnuts is soft, I feel it is not well braised and lacking of the sauce flavour.Sweet Potato Leaves The serving is quite huge and both of us could not finish it. The vegetable is quite tasty. Although we have requested it to be spicy, I feel that it is not spicy enough. Just a hint of spicy taste.Mee Sua PlainInstead of the usual plain rice, we have the meal with silky mee sua. It tastes light and smooth.Dough FritterThe dough fritter is hard and difficult to soak up the soup.Total the bill for 2 persons comes up to $37.10 which I feel it is a bit too expensive for a meal in a coffee shop style place. Overall the food tastes average. Food is served quite fast. continue reading

Was here with my colleague having lunch. Ordered Bak kut teh, tau kee, preserved vegetable and braised pork intestines.I would say that the standard of this stall has dropped as the soup doesn't really have the bal kut teh taste and the meat is not soft enough. Tau Kee and braised pork intestines is really tasty, especially the intestines is cleaned up throughly and doesn't have the pig scent. As for preserved vegetable is normal, nothing much to praise about. Will come back to try their pig trotter one day. continue reading

For full review and photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/03/old-tiong-bahru-bak-kut-teh.htmlHello to our readers out there! Hope you had a great week [: As most of us know, the Tiong Bahru area has become one of the popular places to do cafe-hunting or just chill amidst its old architectures. Today, we shall bring to you this Old Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh which I have always wanted to try. It is located just opposite the Tiong Bahru Market, and a few steps away from Dough & Grains. Read our review on this special bread shop after this! Pork Ribs Bak Kut Teh. Yes, this is the whole main point. But, as I mentioned earlier, the meat wasn't enough to make up for the poor standard of the soup.Pig Trotters. This is the best dish and it is really good. The pig trotters was really well-handled, with no traces of hair or any smell. The black sauce was so good that I basically ignored the other dishes. If you are there, try this! All in all, I think this is definitely not up to my standards for a nice bowl of bak kut teh. However, I might just return for the pig trotters and tau kee (beancurd skin) which was really tasty! continue reading
