Located at the basement of the shopping centre, there were various food outlets for quick bites. One of them is Chippy which offers british food fare such as the traditional fish and chips, and sausage with mash for takeaway. But its most well known item on its menu would be the Fried Mars Balls. Sounded quite sinfully and naughty, but it was a hit with the old and young. Recently Chippy has gone through a rebranding and reopened with a new look.Fried Crumbled Calamari and Fries ($8 /combo)For combo set, it was served with a bottle of lemonade. The lemonade was sour and not too sweet, with a slice of juicy grapefruit on it. The fried crumbled calamari and fries was served in a chinese wire handle take out box, which one usually saw in US dramas, but not common in Singapore. It was quite unique.I had requested no chilli powder on the calamari and fries, yet the serving was covered with the spicy chilli powder when I opened the box.  So sad.The batter was light and crispy with chewy calamari inside. The chilli sauce and mayonnaise was served in a separate container, but I did not use it as the food was already quite spicy for me.Fried Mars Balls with Ice Cream ($4.90)The pipping hot crispy balls were drizzled with chocolate sauce, served on top of the ice cold vanilla ice cream. If you did not like vanilla ice cream there was also a choice of chocolate ice cream. Encased in a thin crispy batter, the balls were filled with layers of gooey thick caramel and rich melted chocolate. Super sweet and yummy. It was an explosive combination of sweet, hot and cold with the ice cream in the mouth.Overall the food was not bad. Except for the mistake with the chilli powder on my order, the staffs were quite friendly. continue reading

If you have the urge to have some snacks while shopping, head down to basement 2. The chirpy chicken selling at Chippy British Take Away is great as a snack. It comes in medium and large serving. The servings comes with cheese topping which can either be given separately or on the chicken. The only down side is that there are a lot of crumbs left at the bottom which is quite difficult to eat because they are too small. continue reading

Beer batter fish & chips I had from Far East Plaza tasted absolutely delicious. The fish used was fresh and fried deeply into a golden brown color. The portion was quite generous and filling. The snack bag priced at $4.80 had quite a number of bite size fish fillet in it. The fish fillets and fries had a good coating of batter on it. It was quite filling and cannot be looked as just a snacking item. continue reading

They sell all sorts of deep fried, battered foods here. Love the fish and chips because it's in small pieces and the fish tastes really good. The chips are really really good too. And the batter is really good! I like my fish and chips battered and not crumbers so this is good. It's not expensive and there is no rancid re-used oil taste. In fact, the standard is pretty consistent across outlets and the taste is fantastic! Recommended. Service is weird but food is great. continue reading

Was in Plaza Sing, the other day. I bought the fried mars ball since everyone saying that it tasted very nice. DAMN THEY WERE RIGHT. they actually dipped the mars ball in a batter and fried it. And served it with vanilla ice-cream. IT WAS SO TASTY. When you spoon it with ice-cream and eat it with the mars balls. it is so HEAVENLY. when i am typing this review, i am drooling. continue reading
