Located near the famous Punggol Nasi Lemak place and yet still able to have a thriving business would really tell you a lot about the food that this place is selling and how much it attract the patrons to come back again and again to satisfy their taste buds.Currently, they have 2 stalls situated along the same street. One which is an indoor location situated near Domino Pizza while the other one is an outdoor location as mentioned above, next to the Punggol Nasi Lemak in a coffee shop. This place was first introduced to me by my aunty who is a 'China-Fanatic' who is crazy about everything about china, be it the country itself, the people or even the food they sell. Honestly, as a typical Singaporean, I was initially very sceptical about the chicken pot that was introduced to me but after the first bite, let me tell you I was totally bought over!If you are a savoury food person like me, you would really love the taste of the chicken pot. Especially when you can add on additional plates of various ingredients that cost $3.30 each and customise the taste of the dish according to your taste buds. However sad to say, when I first visited this place 2 years ago, per additional side dish cost only about $1.50 each. And over the span of the last 2 years, their prices were madly jerk up to $2+, $3 and later to $3.30(now). Be it vegetables or meatballs or bean curd skins, all the dishes have the same price and personally I don't feel that the portion justify the price at all. The chicken pot comes in mild spiciness, mid spiciness and the most spicy ones. If you are not a spicy food lover, you can also request for they to make it none spicy specially just for you (But you would totally miss the point of eating it!) Personally mild spicy is totally enough for me and if you are up to more challenge you can try one level up which is mid spicy.Over all, I would still consider it as my comfort food and miss having it once in a while and would visit it with 2 or more friends or family whenever I feel rich enough as the average you will spend would easily be at least $15 and up.My advise to health conscious people is DON'T EVEN BTHER TRING THIS FOOD. you will totally find it too oily and salty. But for foodie like me, not too bad for a try after all. This place opens till 2-3am in the night. Good for people who love heavy late night supper. continue reading

Yi Restaurant 奇味鸡煲 is an "accidental" find when I went for food tasting at Domino's Pizza. The two eateries are next to each other. When it comes to food, both my hubby and I are "adventurous". We believe in trying new things instead of patronising the same place for comfortable familiarity and "safe" food. We dashed into Yi Restaurant not knowing what to expect, just got an rough idea from the signboard that we would be having chicken in claypot.I gotta use the word dashed, cos' it was freaking crowded! I was like flew towards the empty table and glued my butt on the seat in gan chiong style. After my victorious act, I saw a queue formed outside, phew...........Much like an old coffee shop but the whole place was filled with exciting aroma from the claypots. The restaurant owner had tried his best to make the place as cool as possible with many wall fans and aircon units. Perspiring was still unavoidable with a hot claypot on the table.Instead of steamboat with clear soup, their signature 奇味鸡煲 comes with thick spicy gravy. They have 3 grades of spicy gravy base - MILD SPICY, MID SPICY, VERY SPICY, chose according to your preference and level of "spicy tolerance". Choice of frog's legs, whole chicken, half chicken or 2 chicken drums. We ordered 2 chicken drums with mid spicy base @S$25.50.Beside chicken, green peppers, spices and cloves were soaked in the thick gravy. Chicken drum were cut into chunks and were braised with a nice color and texture ~~~ The fantastic gravy was obviously the main attraction of the crowd.Help yourself at the fridge with assorted add-ons to your claypot @S$3.30 per plate. There's another fridge besides this with canned drinks @S$1.70 per can.The big plate of fried bean curd skin was good enough for 4 pax.I did a very clever thing, we shared it with the next table with a young couple. We gave them half of our fried bean curd skin in exchange for their mushrooms, heeheee.......... They found the portions too big for them to finish as well, so we made ourselves happy with this private exchange.Didn't mind the big plate of green veg but $3.30 wasn't justify.2 cakes of egg noodles were over-charged @S$3.30. But the egg noodles was cooked to perfection with the gravy, yummy-licious big time!Besides sharing the fried bean curd skin with the next table, we shared this too lolxx.......Not too glam, but very practical, heehee.......As you can see, Yi Restaurant resembles Chicken Pot Restaurant in some ways. The differences are Yi Restaurant's -*pots are bigger, containing more gravy and it didn't dry up so fast;*the gravy is more aromatic with interesting taste of different spices;*side dishes were in big portions, which is too much for couple diners;*the place is warm, not much of ambience. While this may not be a ideal place for first date, it's definitely a place for food lovers.Do come in singlets and shorts to beat the heat and be early to beat the crowd. We had given our feedback on the big portions of the side dishes, hoping that they will take into consideration and make some changes. Meanwhile, it's better to gather 4 pax or more for this 奇味鸡煲 feast. continue reading

Went to this place eat several times and brought a lot of my friends to eat. It's a little like steamboat and you can put ingredients in it. You can choose the ingredients from their fridge and they count the price through plate by plate. You only can order half chicken or whole but no less then half. They have different level of spice taste. I always order medium spice. If those who are scared of the spiciness you can order the least spicy which is not bad also. continue reading

Visited this new place at Upper Serangoon Road with my family and it was quite special! We ordered the special qi wei ji bao as shown in the picture with a full chicken inside! You can take side plates with vegetables or noodles based on your preference at $3.30 each to put inside the hot pot. The drinks though costs a little expensive at $1.70/can (if I'm not wrong). Place was a little hot and there's no aircon. continue reading

There is always a long queue for this hotpot store, which is located along Upp Serangoon Road right beside Dominoes. We've been there twice, but always fail to try their spicy soup beer duck stew. We've arrived past 7PM on both nights, only to find out that they're sold out on that. http://static3.sg.orstatic.com/UserPhoto/photopending/0/EZ/002YHRBFC4E9632486EBC7c.jpgSo we always get their signature chicken claypot ($22.90). This is more than enough for 2, and we often still have half the pot leftover for takeaways. When kept it the fridge, it makes for a delicious lunch the next day. We always get the crispy tofu skin to dip into the salty broth, and it cooks really well. What really made our night was the rain. Because it was drizzling slightly, the hotpot was so toasty and it really warmed us up. The perfect meal for a rainy night I would say. Go early for the spicy duck, but their chicken claypot is really spicy, but oh-so-good. The outdoor seats are also a preferred choice because the heat inside is unbearable if it were a normal warm and humid night (almost every night in Singapore) continue reading
