Me and my dining companion were wandering a bit aimlessly in Star Vista, thinking about where to go for lunch. A smart guy spotted us, handed us a flyer for this shabu shabu place and so here we are.I decided to order a healthier japanese hotpot dish - the beef miso lunch set which comes with a bowl of rice. The miso soup base was light but still tasty enough. There was plenty of vegetables within and also generous thin slices of lean beef. Generally quite a decent meal. Beef Miso Nabemono set - $12.50++My companion had the honey Wagyu Beef set. I couldn't tell the difference between the wagyu beef and the supposedly lower-grade beef in my hotpot - they tasted pretty much the same. You cannot taste the honey in the marinade, although there's a slight hint of sweetness. The side wafu salad given was a generous amount though, and the tofu and miso soup was ok. The place is small but that means you can get the attention from the service staff easily.Honey Wagyu Beef with Rice Set - $15.90++ continue reading

My friend and I were drawn to this shop by the flyer given by their staff. Initially it looked pretty reasonable, but when we got in, we found out that everything needed to add money like the soup base. so we stuck to the free soup base. it was really bland, not for drinking, just for cooking. there was a time limit to eat as well. the only thing good was the meats were free flow and the sliced pork is really good, very thinly sliced and very chewy. continue reading

I believe that this is the 2nd outlet to the one at Cathay Cineleisure. it has been known to be reasonably priced but maybe the rent at star vista was higher, they have incorporated the increase in price to the customers as well. I didn't think it was that worth it for this quality of food. We ordered the Wagyu Beef Set for a promotional price of $49.90, original price = $70+?! WOW. The soup base was quite bland to me, ordered the original miso soup so that I didn't have to be charged extra which will most probably ruin the taste of the beef anyways. Although the price was really quite high, I must say that the beef was quite tender and soft. There were no connective tissues in the meat at all which made it easy to chew. I'm not too sure of the grade of the beef but I believe its somewhere up there since they could charge so much. The vegetables were normal as you have to control the fire yourself. I kind of like the sauce that they gave but honestly, I really don't think it's worth the price. You can get the same type of beef at a korean restaurant with a better taste. continue reading
