Introduction
Doodle! is the brainchild of the family who came up with SaladStop!, and has a similar concept of allowing diners to mix and match their pasta according to their desires. Besides the self-creations, there are also signature pastas such as peranakan a-chooom, aroi mak mak and the sweet spot for the less adventurous. continue reading

The Place - I was on the way to my favourite everyman's pasta place Doodle Pasta & Wine Bar at a quiet corner of Novena Specialist Centre & did a double take when I saw the Doodle signboard from the atrium of Novena Square, occupying part of the space where MPH Bookstore used to be. Decided to check it out with my dinner-mates and kinda disappointed with the dormitory dining hall concept here. Only saving grace is one doesn't need to walk as it is literally two floors above the Novena MRT Station. The Service - Self service. Lean staffing at this outlet, only a cashier, two cooks and a counter crew - all Filipino. The advantage of self service place is not having to pay service charge; prices are GST-inclusive.The Prices - Reasonably priced relative to the portion size and the quality of ingredients used.Popular favorites like Spaghetti Bolognaise & Carbonara Pasta cost $10.50 each. The $15 Set Meal is good value with four pastas to pick from, plus a choice between Caesar Salad, the day's Soup or Fruit Salad, and a glass of lemonade. The Food - Same menu (with same prices) as their one year old sister outlet at Novfena Specialist Centre just a few steps away. We opted for the $15 Set Meal which was great value as a la carte pasta prices already range from $8.50 to $12.80. The soup of the day was Homemade Mushroom Soup was creamy, concentrated and had the full bodied taste of lots of fresh mushrooms blended into it. The Caesar Salad was excellent with fresh & crisp romaine leaves, crunchy homemade croutons and crumbled hard boiled egg and their own house dressing. The Fruit Salad of the Day had seedless grapes and chunks of assorted tropical fruits. The Create Your Own Pasta that was included in the Set Meal comes with lean chicken and your choice of four types of fresh vegetables and/or mushrooms. Doodle stands out among other pasta outlets with its wide range of local & imported fresh vegetabkes that can be added to one's pasta to create a nutritionally balanced one dish meal. Choose from bell peppers, celery, carrots, baby corn, pea pods, artichokes, eggplant, olives, cherry tomatoes, sundried tomatoes etc etc. I chose one of Doodle's signature pasta creations - 'Seoulful Sensation' ($11.80 for a la carte orders) as my main course. This was pasta with bacon, bell peppers, onions stir fried with a very fiery chilli pesto made from gochujang, fresh chillies & olive oil. The spice level of 'Seoulful Sensation' is clearly tailored to local palates & a Caucasian who is having this dish will probably end up panting hard for water.Overall we had a very satisfying meal. However, for the same price, I still prefer to patronize the older Doodle bistro at Novena Specialist Centre next to Oasia Hotel, which offers a more comfy, spacious & relaxing dining environment. continue reading
