I hardly go to AMK Hub nowadays and recently when i was there, i discovered some changes to the dining choices that's around the customer service counter. That's when i saw this new Japanese restaurant Udon King. Looks interesting as they even have local favourite like hokkien mee. The Pork Shabu Miso Nabeyaki (Ala carte $11.90 : Set meal $15.90 ) caught my eye! It has all my favorite items all in one. Looks really good when it arrived at my table. Taste wise, it turns out to be so so only. I love the udon, meat is ok but the broth nothing special. continue reading

My classmates and I headed to Ang Mo Kio hub one day to will our long break away and at the same time have lunch. We decide to head to Udon King for lunch but we were too early and ended up waiting around till the restaurant opened at around 11.30am. We didn't wait long to be seated because it was still early and the restaurant was still empty.I ordered the lunch set, Tom Yum Chicken Ramen with fried gyoza as the side dish. My friend had the same but ordered a different side dish - spring rolls and we would share the two sides.Waited quite a while for the food to arrive. The overall taste of the dish was fine and they was quite generous with the chicken meat. However i hoped that the dish was more sour but it was not to be the case. The side dishes were a nice addition to the meal. Despite its name, Udon King offers a wide range of international menu items that includes thai, korean among other. Good for big groups of people who have different cravings. For the lunch set meal ($9-10 depending on which main course selected) consisting of a main dish, side and drink, it is a good deal. continue reading

A good place to recommend of cheap international dishes I would like to recommend this great haunt to OpenRicers! We ordered a kimchi ramen and a chicken cutlet set We had the gyoza too, very crispy and tasty since it's piping hot! The kimichi ramen was great, very appetizing The chicken cutlet is my personal favourite, i like it cooked with egg Please go earlier, i went at almost 8pm and there was quite a queue I went in after queuing for 15 - 20mins!Do head down and try their yummy value for money meal continue reading

I have always preferred thick noodles over thinner noodles & this is probably the reason why I love udons. So I was pretty excited to try out Udon King. You know how Japanese restaurants always showcase their food in plastic/ceramic forms? This restaurant has it too & it's really appealing even before you enter the place. As a curry fanatic, I've ordered the Thailand Green Curry Chicken Drumlet Udon Set ($15.90). This set comes with a drink and a side dish of your choice. Despite mixed reviews about this dish, I personally think that's it's one of the best green curries I've ever tried (and I've tried a lot because I love curries). The udon were soft & springy and gravy simmered to perfection at the right consistency with the right flavour explosion of sweet & spicy. So if there's bad review elsewhere, it may probably be due to the consistency? But I know the one I had was really awesome. My friend also ordered the Japanese Moonlight Potk Sukiyaki Udon Set ($14.90). The set also comes with drink and side dish of our choice. He was apparently quite hungry & start eating before I could snap a picture. But he told me that he only liked the udon. So our sets came with these below. The Chicken Cutlet were typical and possibly need a little more seasoning to the coat. The Gyoza was tasty, crispy on the outside filled with generous fillings on the inside. And the reason why they have the words "World House" in its name is probably because they include regional offerings of Japanese, Korean, Thailand, Malaysia and some Singaporean flavours. My first impression of its Thailand dish was great & I do hope that they maintain the same standards as that day I've visited. continue reading

I ordered the green curry chicken and it was not very good. The soup was bland and did not have much of a kick. There was hardly any spiciness and somehow tasted too milky. The chicken was tender but there was not much taste, possibly due to the poor soup. Thankfully, the noodles were soft. I ordered the lemon tea to go with the meal and sadly, it was very diluted. Overall, not a good experience at this place. I cannot comprehend why there was a queue. Hmm. continue reading
