Mouth Restaurant has been around for more than 20 years and I remembered eating there once many years ago when I was a teenage in the 80s! Recently, after running some errands, I had the chance to try their traditional dim sum with my mum at their Chinatown Point Branch. My mum, being a Cantonese, loves dim sum. When we arrived (without making any reservation), the place was crowded and filled with diners. We managed to snag a table in the middle of the restaurant as someone has just left. They cleaned the table and prepared the table settings in a quick fashion and we didn't have to wait too long.I ordered a few dim sum dishes which are my mum's favourite. We ordered century egg & shredded pork porridge, pan fried carrot cake, siew mai, steamed beancurb roll, deep fried beancurb roll and hot and sour sichuan soup. To be honest, I felt their food quality standards have dropped slightly. I wouldn't jump for joy after eating the dim sum but I will say it is decent and reasonable. Among all the dishes ordered, the century egg porridge was the best. I like the texture and generous portions of shredded pork and century egg. Siew mai was nice with reasonable sized prawns fillings. The fried carrot cake's presentation was good as it looked crispy on the outside and tasted okay inside. The steamed beancurb roll was quite standard but I didn't enjoy the deep fried beancurb roll though as it was too overdone. The hot and sour soup tasted as authentic as the one you order in a Sichuan Chinese Restaurant. If you are hankering after dim sum from the 80's, you can visit Mouth Restaurant for a taste of nostalgic dim sum. continue reading

Went there for CNY 2010. It was really popular and the waitstaff were looking exhausted. But they tried their best and didn't sit around. They were pretty quick at removing dishes and bringing new dishes. We had a set meal and it was really great. Couldn't remember all the dishes as it was an 8-course meal. They serve you and wish you well with each dish and say some Chinese blessing for you! All we remembered was that we should come again! It was reasonably priced with reasonable food. We left feeling satisfied and happy. $90 per person. continue reading

Visited twice this year to Mouth Restaurant at Chinatown Point. The first was when we went for their dim sum lunch during chinese new year. Food was just usual dim sum. Tried their har-kaw and surprisingly, fillings were generous which this was the quality standard that i'm expecting . Every dishes we order are pretty yummy, I also ordered the Century Egg Porridge with Chicken Shreds. To top it off, we also added a Mouth Roast Duck . My porridge ingredients were pretty little and the base too watery for my liking. A saving point was the crispy flour bits that they put on top. Then the Roast Duck came. I was expecting a wonderfully roasted duck, but it disappointed me again, the sauce on the rosted duck tasted awful,! I hope their cheif will improve their recipe in the future to attract me back to dine in their restaurant again. continue reading

This is my favourite place for dimsum and family gathering. It is tucked away on the 2nd floor of Chinatown point. They only serve dimsum from 10-1130am and 3-5pm,so do take note of the timing if you are heading down there. The must-try here are the steamed prawn dumpling/hargau.The hargau skin is just right and crystal-like, melts in your mouth and the inner filling is an entire prawn which is very fresh and juicy, unlike elsewhere where i had tried had only prawn paste in it.It is about $4.20 for a plate of 4 piece.I love their fried version too, which is the fried prawn dumpling, also comes with delicious big prawns as the fillings, and they added some fresh pineapple chunks into the mayo sauce for that extra zing for dipping.Another highly recommended dimsum is their pan fried carrot cake, the outer skin is really crispy and the inner part if fluffy smooth, there is no tinge of guilt at all even if you finish up 3 pieces as the carrot cake is well done, and there was no tad of oilyness. There is also 10 percent discount for passion card members here.Overall, a good deal. continue reading
