Full Jones The Grocer review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2013/02/jones-grocer.htmlJones The Grocer was among the first few cafes in Singapore to popularize the concept of brunch, and it's still going strong today, as evident by the long queues on weekends.Jones The Grocer has the ambience of a gourmet grocery store with a modern and casual cafe. It's really appealing to walk in and immediately be greeted by the sight of fresh produce, cheeses and meats, and the scent of bread and cheese. The entire store has a very homely, comforting feel... You wouldn't feel out of place if you wore slippers, shorts and a t-shirt here!I find the service at Jones The Grocer to be excellent. Staff will greet you before seating you, and despite the long queues, the line moves rather quickly. Waiting time is about 15 minutes or less, thanks to the well-handled seat staggering arrangements.Thumbs up for their handling of unexpected situations! When a customer next to us accidently knocked over a pitcher of water, our seat got wet as well. Staff handled the clean up quickly and efficiently, and even apologised to us despite the situation not being their fault.Specialties at Jones The Grocer include their coffee, cheeses, breads and cakes. Because they use premium ingredients, without any artificial preservatives or colouring, their food tastes really fresh and flavourful. Of course, this all comes at a price, so dining at Jones The Grocer isn't cheap... But you do get what you pay for in terms of quality food and good service. I would definitely recommend dining at Jones The Grocer!Essentially a chocolate danish, the Pain Au Chocolate (SGD $4.50) has a yummy flaky pastry crust which shatters when bit. While there isn't much chocolate filling within, it's still pretty good quality chocolate, and not overly sweet or bitter. One of the specialties here is the coffee, and a sip of this Latte (SGD $5) will show the pride they have in their coffee. Aromatic, full bodied and strong... Just the way I like it!The Hot Chocolate (SGD $6) is among one of the densest I've had. While rich, the thick chocolate tends to collect at the bottom of the cup, and it also settles more quickly than others, meaning before each mouthful, vigourous stirring is required. The Fresh Herb Omelette With Smoked Salmon & Goat's Cheese (SGD $22) features a soft, fluffy egg omelette, cooked well. Stuffed liberally with salty smoked salmon, and sour goat's cheese, the flavour of this dish is intense! Perhaps too intense on the sourness, toning it down slightly may have made this more palpable. Some salad would have helped as well, as the overall dish is very light for its price. The Cinnamon French Toast (SGD $18) is served with mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries) and vanilla creme fraiche. A sweet and filling breakfast, the toast is good enough on its own, but paired with the fruity, tart berries, and smooth, creamy creme fraiche, make this dish a winner. Excellent! continue reading

This is one of the most impressive soup I ever tried. How often we are have different kinds of mushroom in the mushroom soup? Not only the soup was creamy and filled with the meaty mushroom flavor, the different type of mushrooms brought this soup to another level. With the different texture from the mushroom, it created a different dimension to the soup. Some bites I tasted the golden mushrooms, some bites I tasted the oyster mushrooms. So Goooood...The baguette was simply the best. It was more savory than the rest and roasted till super crisp. Served on a wooden board and deco with micro greens gave this soup a rustic feel. It was like dinning in the garden. The batty was very thick but the bun was even bigger. Good skill from the chef, the batty was just well-done. Juicy and tender in the inside. However, the large amount of mayo and ketchup was overwhelming. They totally covered the taste of the beef. I love my burger with many fresh veg, but it was no where to be found in this burger. The fried was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside, but need a bit more seasoning. The saddest thing about this meal was the handmade ketchup for the fried. There was still a raw tomato taste and the ridiculous spices. I actually bite into a coriander seed and it's taste exploded in my mouth. It was like biting into chinese five star spice. The ultimate Big Breakfast for TWO! Sautéed Mushroom + Spinach + Hash Brown + Tomato + Scrambled Egg + Bacon + Sausage. I love Sautéed Mushrooms. It gives the dish a savory meaty feeling with a much lesser Kcal.Scrambled Egg was silky and no rough part. Very nice done.It was such a Bliss to finish up such a big breakfast. Personally I don't liked to eat the breakfast part by part. I liked to mix the ingredients together. Tried to have everything in one bite. With the savory and fatty bacon, it made everything tasted better. The best thing to do after devoting this big breakfast is to crawl back into bed and slowly "dream" off this big meal!!!Honestly, Jones need to change their Sausages. It was simply the most disgusting sausages I ever tried. I couldn't recognize the meat inside and everything fall apart in my mouth. It was like eating dough but in a shape of a sausage.Omelet for the win. One egg with two different texture. Slightly harden on the outside but soft and creamy in the inside. Smoked Salmon and Goat Cheese wrapped with the egg and seasoned with lots of Parmesan. A dash of fresh grinned black pepper made this dish close to perfection.Personally I felt that there was much Goat Cheese, as it's taste was overwhelming and covered the flavor of the Smoked Cheese. As a result, it took me a lot of effort to finish it. continue reading

Looking at the menu, I would say it was quite a struggle to order... everything seemed so expensive... Sigh. But since we were having brunch, it was considered 2 meals at a time, so we can afford slightly higher end stuff. Heh, we are good at self hypnotizing. keke Jones English Breakfast - $22Eggs Poached, Fried or Scambled with Jones Sausage, Slow Roasted Tomato, Sauteed Mushrooms, Bacon and Sourdough ToastI ordered this because it came with lotza varieties! In fact, I think this can be shared between 2 persons if you are not too hungry. Particularly, I adored the scambled egg & the mushrooms.. yummy!Jones Wagyu Beef Burger - $26.50Roasted Tomato, Rocket Salad & Cheese with Jones Balsamic Onion JamMy bf ordered this because the word "Wagyu" was simply too tempting... Hehe. The portion was big and the burger was okay. In fact, I like the "orangish" sauce in the background that went very well with the wedges. Overall, the dishes are pretty decent, taste wise and presentation, albeit expensive. Magazines are provided, so you can savour breakfast and cakes, while enjoying a good article. Nice way to spend a weekend afternoon indeed! To read more & view photo, please visit http://fun-hideout.blogspot.sg/2010/10/jones-grocer.html. continue reading

Something good about this place is that the renovation here is very simple yet comfortable. On top of that, they serve brunch till 12 noon during the weekdays. Good for people who wants to have brunch on weekdays and have some quiet time around town area. I ordered a Benedict egg breakfast ($20) which was rather small in portion. The bread was slightly crispy and the spinach was sautéed lightly. However I find that the vinegar taste in the poached eggs a bit overwhelming.I have also ordered a pot of tea. love the earl grey tea, it was just of the right temperature.Overall, it is a good place to have brunch and do some reading during the weekdays. continue reading

for photos and more reviews, visit http://thelittlemomentsofmylife.blogspot.com (:so jones the grocer isn't exactly new, and while i've heard many times that it's good but overpriced, i just had to try it for myself haha. and yup, i came to the same conclusion it's good, but just expensive. probably not worth coming back for when i can get better food elsewhere for cheaper (: i liked the atmosphere there though! it was good that we went just before lunch, and i guess because it's in ion, and the restaurant was pretty big, it's just nice to chill there with friends because it doesn't get too crowded. the breakfast menu at jones was pretty limited to the standard dishes, and many of them were pretty ex! so i went for the safe option - eggs benedict ($20) with spinach and smoked ham. i was initially disappointed when it arrived because it looked so much smaller than classic bacon & eggs ($18, below)! it really seemed quite pathetic that i received such a small portion for that kind of price. not very worth it at all. but the good thing was that the taste made up for it (: the spinach was surprisingly flavourful, something i didn't expect, and the dish achieved a delicate balance of tastes that was just right. i liked how the egg was done perfectly, with the yolk flowy - like how a proper poached egg should be. and it was surprisingly filling despite it being a single egg! the classic bacon & eggs was a really huge portion! and i really liked the roast tomato that came with it! super juicy and sweet.the spanish baked eggs ($21) was pretty well done too! i really enjoyed the 'broth' or whatever you call that thing in the pot haha. it was laced with interesting spices such as chorizo, red peppers and tomato relish that gave it a robust piquancy. continue reading
