Was at tampines the other day with my friend and we were both craving for hot ramen soup as it has been raining lately. Instead of going to Aijisen, we headed to Ramen Kagetsu Arashi which is located at tampines one. I have ordered this char siew ramen which is quite average. Nothing fantastic about it but it wasn’t bad either. The soup is a little salty and the char siew is a bit too hard to my liking. The noodles were soft and chewy though. I paid sgd$14 for this (including gst and service charge). Personally, I have eaten better ramen with the same price. But it is still worth a try since I have never been here before. continue reading

Long queues were seen the first few days after the opening of Ramen Kagetsu Arashi at Tampines 1. I waited for the hype to die down before making a trip down! Their menu is not extensive and we ordered their signature Arashi Genkotsu Ramen, which uses tonkotsu broth. The broth is simmered for hours with pork marrow, body, fat, collagen and garlic. I love the flavoursome broth but I feel that their ingredients were too little. We also ordered a set of Gyozas to share. When it first arrived, I was a little shock by the colour. I guess they pan-fried it a little too long and hence it was black at some parts. Anyway, the gyoza is crispy while the inside is chewy! continue reading

The store display of shoyu butter rice was a generous display of rice covered in a luscious golden yellow egg mix. that's exactly what I wanted. But I hesitated when I saw the menu. It was an already mixed hot plate of cha han. That's not what I wanted. Hmm. Still, making decisions was too much work. So I stuck with it. And this was what arrived.$12.90 Itameshi shoyuWith a small ramekin of shoyu which the waiter happily dumped in the entire contents of. The sizzling sound was comforting but i'm not sure I wanted that much salt. And a side of cold soup. It was horrible trying to stomach a cold bowl of soup. Not room temperature. It was air conditioned cold temperatures. And no I did not bother getting my soup changed. The rice was nicely burnt on some parts giving that charred taste i love. The butter fragrance was strong and inviting. But it was generally too salty. Perhaps that's why they leave a jug of water on every table for self service. I wished there was more meat though. I found myself with too many mouthfuls of salty egg rice. It'll be awhile before I'm back. continue reading

The Gyoza 5 pieces is crispy on the outside and filling on the inside. Not a tad too oily. The Arashi Genkotsu Miso Ramen tasted great as the char siu were peppered with flavour although the soup tasted slightly strong of garlic which left a bit of aftertaste. The Arashi Genkotsu Ramen which is their original tonkotsu ramen tasted great and flavourful, char siu peppered with flavour as well as the soup also left an aftertaste of garlic. The downside for both ramens was that the eggs came in hard-boiled, contrary to most ramens having soft-boiled eggs (it was told prior to ordering the egg comes hard-boiled, whether ramen or a-la-carte).For full reviews and photos, please visit http://makanarts.com/2013/08/08/ramen-kagetsu-arashi-tampines-1/ continue reading

Went to try the new Ramen store at Tampines 1. As usual will need to queue up to get in. Order 2 different type of ramen, the pork based and the milky based soup. Portion of the ramen is alright but comparing to other ramen, the eggs they used is hard boiled egg and to me I would think that the cha su is very thin. I also ordered the gyoza for side dish, not that bad! But what is different from others is they have quite a few condiments and pickled onions on the table. At the same time what i think is thoughtful is they place a tub of ice water on the table which the waiter do not need to refill our cup now and then. continue reading
