Hidden on the second floor of Park Lane Shopping Mall is Isle Eating House, a simple coffee shop located in the heart of Dhoby Ghaut. Not always common, but self-service curry gravy. For those like me who love a ton of curry gravy on their rice, this is perfect. 50 calories per scoop of curry gravy does deter me from flooding my rice with curry gravy.A great mix of meat and vegetables! Anything you could possibly want. For $6.90 you can get two plates of rice for two people! You could probably only afford a plate of Indonesian mixed food rice at the Plaza Sing Food Court just a 5 minute walk away.I love my potatos and I usually get some form of potatos from any chai peng (mixed veg rice) stall and this tasted pretty good. The potato slices were pan fried first, before getting cooked, as you can see the charring of each potato slice and some even tasted crispy. The omelette egg was decent, not too salt and they were generous with the serving of the omelette. I enjoyed munching on the omelette that was drowned in curry gravy. The chicken pieces were okay, tasted like the normal fried chicken you get from a chai peng stall. But for $3.50, I felt it was reasonably priced for a meal in the city area.Finding Teh-O, Kopi-O for 90 cents and Teh, Kopi for $1, is very reasonably priced in the city area! For $2, what meal can you get in the Dhoby Ghaut area? At Isle eating house, you can either get 2 crispy roti prata or fried carrot cake! Definitely my choice of cheap eats if I'm near Peace Centre, or before I head to Teo Heng at Hotel Rendezvous.  continue reading

Around Orchard area, I think this eating house is of the best venue to offer cheap and generous portion of mixed vegetable rice. For the price of $3.40 per plate, is very cheap and looks really appetizing. Love the plain rice to be flooded with their flavourful curry gravy, which is available for everyone to top up themselves at their counter. Spinach is fresh and crunchy and bitter guard is not too bitter and really tasty. Brinjal is soft and flavourful too. Service here is alright and cleaniness here is so so as well. Fortunately the place is with air-conditioned. continue reading

I have my Friday's lunch with my all-time favourite roasted pork noodles here. Even though the dining environment may be really simple and squeezy, but because of the delicious food here, I will still come here. The roasted pork noodles is really yummy and cheap at merely $3.30 per plate. The noodles are very chewy and the portion is also generous. Love the crispy roasted pork that is really thick in slices and the meat is chewy and not too oily. The marinating sauce for the noodles is very tasty and blend in very well with the noodles. continue reading

We had gone for a spa treatment one saturday afternoon. Our appointment was at 1 PM. After the massage which took 1 hour, we were terribly hungry, but since we were meeting some friends for lunch, we decided to grab a quick snack before meeting our friends. We went into Park Lane mall & picked up 2 chicken spring rolls from Isle Eating house. The spring roll had a nice filling. It had chicken, cabbage, carrots. It was crispy from the outside & tasted Ok. I couldn't finish mine since I found it tooo oily, but my hubby enjoyed them. The Spring rolls costed just 1$ each. We noticed that Isle Eating house has alot of snacks & sweets, than food. They have curry puffs, fish balls on skewers & alot of deep fried stuff. They also have some appealing & colorful sweets, which we would like to try next time . continue reading

For $3.50, this plate of fried rice is served hot with small bits of char siew, veg and small prawns. The rice smells fragrant when served. However, I found the portion a little too small and the rice taste slightly too sweet and salty. As for the ingredients given, there a few small visible pieces but generally quite few to name. Perhaps for those who woul like to try this stall you can consider the horfun or hokkien mee or desserts which are slightly more popular. continue reading
