Recently I received an email about 1-for-1 promotion for certain tarts and loaf cakes at the bakery and decided to visit the orchard outlet as it was nearest to me. There were also 2 more outlets, one in Tiong Bahru and another in Raffles City Shopping Centre. The outlet was located in the first floor of Tangs department store. The place was crowded during lunchtime, but the queue moved quickly. I was able to redeem the promotion smoothly and swiftly. Food was already placed on the table before I came back from the cashier. Such fast service.Lemon Tart ($6.50)There was 3 different levels of sourness for lemon tart. I had selected the lowest which was first level. It was slightly sour. The texture reminded one of Jello. The crust was too hard.Pandan Flan ($6.50)It reminded one of a certain kueh, not the kind of traditional flan which I was expecting. A bit too jelat after a few mouthful. Best share with someone else.Latte ($5.50)It tasted slightly chocolaty.Overall food was average. Service was great. There was free wifi from the department store too. Great choice for a place to rest after shopping. continue reading

Finally get my hands on this famous Tiong Bahru Bakery! Now it has a few stores around Singapore, with 2 being in the town area, one at Raffles City and one at Tangs Orchard. Very much convenient now! But the branch at Tangs Orchard is quite small, with few tables and some high tables.Beside sweet treats, there’s some savory treats too! and the simple plain baker goods! such as croissant or brioche etc. Good choice for some high tea or break from shopping! But provided if you manage to find a seat! :/we were hanging around there for a while and finally manage to get a seat, but it was a little squeezy and cramp for 4. furthermore its near the walkway. but! for the food, we just got to make do with it! Ordered one sweet and one savory treats with 2 cup of hot tea and 2 chilled drinks!Apricot Almond tart ($7.50): Never tasted any apricot more sourish than this! Usually we have sudden sugar rush, this is sudden sour rush. I would hope it to be a lil more sweet and less sour. The top layer is like apricot puree-jam like. Beneath it is the tart, which i find that its not bad. Very similar to typical almond pastry. The mouthfeel is good.& of course all the way to Tiong Bahru Bakery, how can we not try their voted best croissant? In fact, you’ll see croissant on almost every table there. It’s reallly goood! Flaky and crispy on the outer, soft and fluffy on the inside! Not too oily too! Time for you to head down for one too! Overall, for everything we’ve ordered, i feel that only croissant is worth the try! continue reading

I was very surprised that TB Bakery interior had a nice cafe cum coffee shop feel to it. I kept thinking it's a Bakery like Breadtalk. The tables are small and seats are very limited so do expect to wait a bit for seats. This is one of their popular items - Kouign-amann. It is very sweet and buttery. I think it's quite delicious but definitely sharing portion because it's going to be quite "gelat" to eat it all by yourself. It's a pastry that's rolled into a snail shape and has layers of sugar and butter. Arteries clogging!! Order this to share. We also had the Quince Lorraine which is like a cheese and ham pie. I like it! But you must eat it quickly after they heat it up for you otherwise once it's cold, the cheese doesn't taste appealing. The crust is crumbly and butter and again, is quite a filling dish.Their coffees are a must try. I read that they get their coffee from the cafe Common Man Coffee Roasters which serves good coffee so I was quite impressed. I tried their Flat White and their Latte, both of which I think is really good. You can really taste the aroma of the coffee beans and there is a nice mellow aftertaste. Not too sweet and a good balance of coffee and milk. continue reading
